SERVPRO Water Removal for Drying Your Wet, Damp Sterling Basement

Whenever the basement of your Nashua home becomes damp or wet, you need to remedy the situation quickly before damage sets in. Hiring the right technicians for the job gives you the lasting solutions you require. Whether you have a burst pipe, water heater malfunction, or a washing machine leak, the professionals at SERVPRO can help.

While there are various water restoration companies to pick from, our trained technicians at SERVPRO arrive for water removal in Sterling using all of the latest technology and equipment. There are several ways that water and moisture can penetrate your home, so we employ tried and true methods to combat these damaging effects. You can trust in us to arrive at your property with the best tools and equipment to get the job done.

For SERVPRO technicians to complete a thorough inspection of the water damaged area, we come in using discovery and detection tools for locating hidden moisture and water. Some of the tools we often use in such instances include moisture sensors for baseboards, walls, and carpeting. We also use infrared or thermal imagery and hygrometers and then isolate areas of your basement that might be damp and harboring moisture. These tools are essential for assisting our technicians in finding points of penetration so that we can begin the drying process.

Water Penetration Reduction

Our SERVPRO technicians pinpoint precise locations where moisture is and then seal them up. Any masonry that is compromised can leave your basement vulnerable. Here, we can use a hydraulic cement compound to seal off these water-breached points. The goal is to ensure you have a basement that is free of any lingering dampness. Swift detection and containment ensure healthier indoor air quality for your family and any pets within the home.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster can make sure that you have the moisture and water removal to get your basement back to normal. Give our team a phone call today at (978) 537-1500, and we can send someone out as soon as possible.

Professional Fire Damage Restoration Specialists Give Tips on Cleaning Smoke and Soot Damaged Items in Leominster

Cleaning Household Goods Soiled by Smoke and Soot a Major Aspect of Fire Damage Mitigation Services in Leominster

Helping your family's daily routines re-established after a disaster is one of the goals at SERVPRO. We understand that the ongoing stress that comes with significant disruptions in Leominster can reach into areas that previously seemed stable and rock-solid. Once-minor things can become much more critical in the wake of a crisis. We help stabilize the situation in numerous ways, including restoring the items your family used regularly.

The varying degrees that a Leominster home might show fire damage like smoke and soot can range from items too filthy to touch to hardened plastic that melted onto surfaces, or scorched others. Cleaning methods vary, depending on soot type and density, as well as the residues left behind.

Large, flat, smooth surfaces like untextured walls and ceilings need vacuuming and then wiping down with a dry sponge. This method does not work well enough for most household items that might contain grooves, depressions, intentional pitting, or other textures. Soot can work on these surfaces. The microscopic particles in soot and the oily liquid residues can render regular soap and water too weak to clean anything effectively.

We use several different tools to strip fire damage soiling away from the surface and get things back to their preloss condition. Many of these can reach the debris from a fire's smoke in tiny places on memorabilia from older generations or tourist traps visited on vacations. Brushes pull soot off lacy ribbons decorating dolls and other porcelain items. Our handheld vacuums free heavy draperies of smoke clinging to the fabric. Sponges gently rid chrome fixtures in your bathrooms and kitchen of blackened soot and keep them from additional damage.

Another method used requires our ultrasonic water bath equipment. The difference in a short period makes in a soot-covered plate or vase is quite striking. After our crew packs up the items for cleaning and transports them to our facility, other members of our skilled team unpack them and begin organizing the items inside the basket.

The water bath only requires a few minutes before all of the soot disintegrates. The bubbling action created by the ultrasonic waves works at the microscopic level and removes even embedded soot from hairline cracks and the tiniest spaces. While the surface of the water looks like nothing is happening, adding a hollow ball that floats to the water reveals the movement below the surface. This movement is a very effective method, and we use it to help our customers restore belongings and minimize the number of items they need to replace.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster wants to help your family recover from the implications of disasters, including those related to fire damage. Our building services crew helps restore structural components, including HVAC and electrical systems, but we know personal belongings are equally important. Call (978) 537-1500 when your residence in Sterling or Harvard and its contents need skilled cleaning and restoration professionals.

Developing an Emergency Plan for Natural Flooding in Fitchburg

10/6/2019 (Permalink)

What's your plan question underlined in red marker. With a red marker under the question. SERVPRO will help you come up with a plan for your Fitchburg flood.

You should always have a plan for when your Fitchburg home floods.

When flooding occurs in Fitchburg homes, you might not have the time to react to the situation. As water rushes along the lower levels of your home, new areas become affected, and the contents of these regions get immediately exposed to the rising water. Our SERVPRO professionals can help with nearly all of the effects of the flooding in your house, but developing an emergency plan is something that every property owner should do to better protect their family and their investment in the structure.

As challenging as flood damage in Fitchburg homes can be, much of these effects only require our premier equipment and products to overcome. With our fast response to emergencies, we can begin effective mitigation tactics immediately to save our customers time and money when it is possible. Your emergency plan can help to protect some of the belongings of your house before our team arrives to keep them safe from direct water exposure.

Your plan should fixate the most on what the members of your family should do in the event of a disaster. Flooding does not allow you to develop real-time strategies when water begins to pour into the house. In the brief time before this situation becomes overwhelming, every member of the household needs to know what they should do to prevent injury. In most cases, this is as simple as locating a safe area that does not become affected by flooding for everyone to convene. This component of the plan is ideal for those outside of the house as well.

There are ways that you can protect your belongings and our SERVPRO technicians arriving to help as well. Knowing what to grab before a situation becomes unsafe can help to protect irreplaceable belongings and keepsakes. Additionally, you can shut off running utilities that could become affected by the flooding, such as your electricity, gas, and water services before vacating.

No matter when disaster strikes, you need a team of professionals with the experience and the equipment to make a difference quickly. Even with our success in disaster relief, the highest priority of our SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster team is the safety of our customers and team. Developing an emergency plan can help to do this. No matter how we can help, give us a call at (978) 537-1500.

Save Money and Heat Better with Duct Cleaning in Leominster

With the winter season seemingly always just around the corner, Leominster homeowners might soon be looking to get their furnaces and heaters back up and running for the colder months to come. You do not need to understand the heater duct cleaning process in Leominster homes to understand the benefit it can have for both this system and your out-of-pocket expenses. We have sophisticated tools to help limit the spread of dust, debris, mold spores, and other particulates such as our air scrubbers and HEPA vacuums. Cleaning the system itself involves tools like our whips and drill-powered brushes that can knock sediment and buildup loose for collection by our vacuum systems.

Cleaning your system can help it to run more efficiently. Because of our NDCA certifications and training, we can also open up the HVAC primary unit and clean its components in addition to the effect we can have on the attached ductwork. These steps can increase the longevity of the appliance and help the system to better heat the entire house. The added efficiency of the unit can allow it to run much less in certain situations, which can save you money on your utility costs.

With the harsh winter weather often expected in the area, you need to ensure that your heater and its connected ductwork is up to the task. Give our SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster professionals a call anytime that you need us at (978) 537-1500.

Are You Dealing With Foul Odors in Your Sterling Home After Fire Damage?

8/20/2019 (Permalink)

Fire damage can completely overrun your Sterling home. Call the professionals at SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

Removing Odors Effectively After a Fire Damages Your Sterling Home

A fire may cause severe damage to your Sterling home because the destruction is not only caused by the flames but also the soot and smoke residues produced. To prevent additional damage, you should start the cleanup process as soon as possible to ensure your house is smoke and soot free.

When there are odors in your Sterling home after fire damage, it is vital to contact fire restoration experts to help you with the cleaning process. The smoke smell is mostly left in the building materials of a house, clothes, drapes, carpets, rugs, and upholstered furniture. The factors that determine the severity of smoke odors include:

The extent of the fire: Large fires tend to produce a lot of smoke and burn more materials than smaller ones.

The duration that the smoke was left to linger before cleaning: A longer exposure time means materials in a home absorb more smoke.

The size of your home: Smaller rooms or homes tend to have more pungent smoke odors since the scent is more concentrated.

Burnt materials: If a fire burns items such as plastics, sponges, wood, and clothes, the smoke smell is more likely to be pungent.

SERVPRO has the appropriate cleaning products and equipment to help you remove soot and odors from your residence. We can assess the destruction and advise you about the actions to take, which items you can restore and which ones to replace. We can use a heavy-duty vacuum to remove soot from walls, carpets, and furniture, among other surfaces.

Our Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration Technicians (FSRT) can also use chemicals called counteractants to split up smoke molecules to eradicate odors. The type of counteracts we use vary based on the kind of materials a fire burned. We can apply counteractants to carpets, furniture and drapers. Our crew can also provide them for laundering clothing. Bear in mind that a majority of deodorizing disinfectants and deodorizing sprays only offer temporary relief. Furthermore, deodorizing sprays can interact with the smoke scent, creating new odors in the process.

As a fire burns, smoke may spread through walls and other surfaces. If you do not remove smoke odor properly, it can occasionally reoccur, mainly when the weather is damp or warm. Our SERVPRO technicians can use a process called thermal fogging to eliminate the odor.  The warm chemical fog penetrates the house and walls just like the fire and neutralizes the smoke scent as it goes to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Our restorers can also remove smoke from ducts. We can use chemical sealers to permanently secure the smoke to the sides of ducts because these areas have crevices and joints that make them difficult to clean using the conventional brush and vacuum methods.

If your Fitchburg, Leominster, or Harvard home has unpleasant odors after a fire, contact SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster for efficient cleanup and deodorization. You can reach us anytime at (978) 537-1500.

The Advantages Of Hiring SERVPRO After Your Leominster Hotel Experiences A Fire

8/2/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is ready to help you with hotel fire damage 24/7.

Benefits Of Professional Fire Damage Remediation For Your Leominster Hotel

Whether locals arrive for a staycation or far-flung relatives and friends gather at your Leominster hotel for a wedding, graduation, or anniversary celebration, you promise guests a safe and comfortable stay. If a fire on the property threatens these expectations, you need professional help fast. Our team of Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained managers and technicians have the skills and the equipment to turn a fire disaster around.

Your on-site hotel laundry facility in Leominster experienced fire damage from a blaze that started in lint-clogged dryer vents. Although the flames knocked down quickly when the automatic sprinkler system activated, your facility suffers from a smoky smell and soggy carpeting near the laundry. Our crews can help with all aspects of this disaster, protecting your customer’s travel plans as well as your bottom line.

When our SERVPRO crew arrives, we assess the need for water mitigation as part of the overall fire damage scenario. Technicians contain the damaged space, setting up air scrubbing equipment to filter and then vent airborne soot particles, and their associated odors, outdoors. We use pumps and extractors to remove standing water from the tiled floors in the laundry area.

Our crew leader designs a drying perimeter with heated air movers and dehumidifiers in the affected area. Other SERVPRO technicians work on the wet carpeting in the hallway near the laundry. First, they use wanded extractors to mitigate the damage, preventing the spread of moisture to the rest of the carpet. Then weighted extractors force water from both the wet carpet and padding.

IICRC-trained technicians must perform the in-place carpet water extraction. SERVPRO technicians avoid stretching or tearing the carpet fabric. Failure to proceed appropriately can also risk delamination of the carpet from its backing. When moisture levels drop to levels prescribed by industry, best practices drying equipment is added to complete the project.

If needed, SERVPRO deodorization specialists employ additional strategies if the air scrubber leaves an unwanted smell. Thermal foggers or hydroxyl generators can neutralize the odor-bearing particles. Finally, we take a look at the trouble-causing dryer vents, cleaning them for safety and future equipment efficiency.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is ready to help you with hotel fire damage 24/7. Call us at (978) 537-1500 to schedule an assessment and to get the ball rolling on mitigation and remediation that makes it “Like it never even happened.”

Mold in Fitchburg Homes? Fire or Storm Damage at Your Property? SERVPRO can Provide Restoration Services

7/22/2019 (Permalink)

The SERVPRO Green Fleet Is Why Fitchburg Property Owners Know Whom to Call for Restoration Services

How Our SERVPRO Team Handles Disasters in Fitchburg

With hundreds of thousands of residents sharing Worcester County, having a team of qualified and experienced professionals to help when disasters strike Fitchburg and other communities in our area is vital to protecting our customer's property and keeping their families safe. We know how readily situations like water, fire, storm, and mold losses can occur, and we keep a full roster of trained professionals to address these concerns swiftly and thoroughly. Additionally, we can offer solutions for biohazard cleanup, insulation abatement and removal, and advanced cleaning for homes and commercial properties.

Storm
The location of the entire state of Massachusetts leaves areas like Fitchburg prone to severe storm damages in every season of the year. We understand how quickly a strong storm system can become traumatic to properties, and strive to offer our customers the most comprehensive approach to recovery, beginning with a fast and confident response despite the conditions in the area. From Nor’easters to hurricane-like scenarios, homes and businesses can become quickly and thoroughly damaged within a short period.

With winter being such a particularly devastating time for storm damage and Fitchburg homes, our SERVPRO team must remain prepared with the tools and resources needed to overcome any situation, including freezing and power loss. We can offer temporary heating solutions for properties damaged by storms, or those that have suffered frozen pipes. It can be dangerous for your family to go without adequate warmth through certain times of the year, so our team ensures you have it while restoration and recovery work continues in the house.

Our restoration services can continue into offering temporary power solutions as well with portable generators for storm-damaged Fitchburg properties. Not only can this be instrumental in running mitigation and recovery equipment used in the house, but it can help to maintain heat, air conditioning, and lights when relocation is not necessary, and restoration persists.

Water
Much of the award-winning service that we have offered to Fitchburg residents over the years stems from our commitment to provide customers with knowledgeable and helpful technicians in a crisis. This dedication to have skilled and well-trained technicians has encouraged the majority of our team to pursue acquiring their Water Restoration Technician (WRT) accreditation through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.) These certifications allow us to be the most readily prepared for water loss incidents that occur in the area, and we can dispatch experienced professionals in this niche of the restoration industry 24/7 from our facility.

Much of the work that we do during water damage in Fitchburg homes begins with establishing a moisture baseline and working all drying, extraction, and recovery efforts off of this goal. With an understanding of how quickly these loss incidents can get out of control, residents need a team that can arrive with powerful extraction and drying tools like our shaft-driven truck-mount pumps and heavy-duty dehumidification units.

Moisture detection tools and discovery devices help to monitor the success of drying efforts in your Fitchburg home through every phase of restoration. With our restoration over replacement mentality, we can arrive quickly in a crisis to protect your original construction materials and contents to prevent unnecessary reconstruction.

Mold
Mold damage in Fitchburg homes can occur from multiple sources, but this moisture and dampness present substantial risks to both the structural integrity of your property and those exposed to the active colonization. Considering the humidity levels that damage many homes and properties throughout all seasons of the year, there is no set time where your residence is less at risk for this potential microbial growth.

Basements and crawlspaces are particularly susceptible to mold growth and microbial threats. Fitchburg properties can struggle to ventilate these areas properly, and they are also less likely to get enough sunshine and traffic. Dark and damp are ideal conditions for the facilitation of mold colonies, which can spread quickly to threaten far more than the immediate materials and contents of the area.

We have IICRC-Certified Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) that can work to quickly identify the full spread of mold damage in Fitchburg homes and the best plan to overcome these effects. Our SERVPRO team has multiple approaches to remove active colonies, including soda (bicarbonate) and dry-ice pellet blasting, antimicrobial sprays, and controlled demolition techniques. We can meet the high expectations of industrial hygienists involved in helping clear homes, and especially commercial structures like clinics, dental offices, and hospitals after mold damage.

Fire
While all of the potential disasters that could affect Fitchburg homes can be traumatic and overwhelming in their unique way, fire loss incidents become multi-faceted threats. Not only can these situations present significant structural concerns, but there are additional effects that must get addressed as well, including deodorization, residue removal, content management, and debris removal. With no two disasters being exactly alike, our SERVPRO team must create a fire loss recovery plan tailored to your property and the damages that must get overcome.

Part of our success in recovering fire damage in Fitchburg homes begins with our commitment to having the best available equipment in the industry. From our industrial steamers that can help to thoroughly clean materials like tile and upholstery to our gas and electric fogging machines that are vital to deodorization efforts, we can approach each loss situation with confidence and the right tools to help.

We strive to offer Fitchburg residents a comprehensive and knowledgeable approach when contending with fire loss scenarios, and that is why our technicians have IICRC certifications in multiple areas, including:

-    Fire & Smoke Restoration (FSRT)

Why Drying Is An Important Part Of Our Water Damage Restoration Process In Fitchburg

The Crucial Role Of Drying Theory In Restoring Fitchburg Homes From Water Damage

A wet property is exposed to a range of primary and secondary issues. It is a well-known fact that the longer a property is wet, the more likely it is for damage to occur. This danger can be immediately visible signs of damage, such as staining, weakening of the structure, or absorbing of moisture. It can also be a less immediately noticeable problem, such as the growth of bacteria, fungi, or other microbial growth. Acting quickly to dry the affected area is crucial to mitigating against immediate or future losses.

Our crew of technicians is on hand to help you with water damage in Fitchburg. One of the key advantages of using SERVPRO is that we have a strong knowledge of the factors which affect drying time. Using these factors to our advantage helps us to speed up drying times and, in doing so, prevent permanent issues from occurring. The factors to control during the drying process are the temperature, the amount of water to be evaporated, humidity, and air movement.

The guiding principle of drying theory is that wet moves to dry. Moisture moves into dry surfaces to establish equilibrium, just as evaporated moisture exchanges with drier air. Temperatures between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit ensure that the surrounding air holds more water and thus lowers drying time. SERVPRO can control temperature either by using your central heating system or, if the affected area is non-heated like a garage, we can bring in our heating equipment to reach optimum temperatures.

The amount of water that we need to evaporate can also be controlled. By bringing in extraction units or pumps, we can reduce the amount of water needing to be evaporated. A truck-mounted extraction unit can pump out 36,000 gallons of water a day. A dehumidifier, by comparison, can only extract 30 gallons. When it does come to evaporating residual moisture, rapid air movers can help to raise surface temperatures and encourage evaporation through the airflow.

Knowledge of how to efficiently restore a wet structure is as valuable as the equipment required to do it, contact SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 for expert assistance.

The Technology That Goes Into Fire Damage Restorations in Leominster

7/7/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO will take on your fire damage restoration.

Let us eliminate your worries.

Restoring many of the items in your fire damaged Leominster home may require special care and individual attention. However, processing large quantities of items very quickly is equally important to ensure that as little damage over time happens as possible. To satisfy both needs, we treat many objects in our ultrasonic immersion tanks. These devices contain a mixture of water and cleaning chemicals but, unlike most other baths and cleaning techniques, also involve the use of carefully-tuned ultrasonic waves that create vibrations and remove even the smallest particles of smoke and ash. SERVPRO technicians receive extensive training in these machines to ensure that the correct frequencies and chemical mixtures are applied to give your belongings the best treatment possible.

Industrial-Grade Cleaning Agents

Most of the surfaces and furniture in your home can be cleaned through much faster means, either through hand washing or with large scrubbers. However, to remove fire residues effectively, we have to use industrial-grade cleaning agents that may often be designed to work with only a single type of fire damage. Although it can be tough to stock, maintain, and use such a wide variety of cleaning agents that may only apply to a specific type of damage, doing so enables us to treat all cases of fire damage with utmost efficiency.

Deodorizing Foggers

Fire odors can persist for long after all other signs of damage have been removed. To prevent any smells of smoke from sticking around, we use powerful thermal fogging devices that create thick clouds of odor eliminating chemicals that leave your home with a neutral scent, "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster can help mitigate and restore the effects of fire damage from your home after disasters large or small. Call us 24/7 at (978) 537-1500.

Apart from the health and wellbeing of your guests and patrons, there are other reasons you might also consider choosing duct cleaning from our SERVPRO professionals. The first of these advantages is lowered energy costs and the longevity of your HVAC system. With less throttling of the conditioned air moving throughout your building, the system runs more efficiently. This performance can improve the lifespan of the appliance while also reducing potential energy costs.

Additionally, our SERVPRO team members can also clean this system to reduce the amount of time that your housekeeping services provide upkeep and maintenance to individual rooms. Compromised systems collect dust and debris against vents and registers, so with the circulation of air, these particulates get spread to nearby surfaces and require cleaning.

To avoid added time cleaning, to improve the efficiency of the system overall, and to make the air quality better for your guests, consider air duct cleaning from our SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster professionals. We can respond quickly to your concerns with a free and honest evaluation of your HVAC system. Give us a call today at (978) 537-1500.

SERVPRO Takes Immediate Action In Restoring Your Leominster Home After Water Damage

6/13/2019 (Permalink)

We will use our specialized inspection, extraction, and drying equipment to restore your home to pre-damage condition.

SERVPRO - Professional Water Removal For Protecting Leominster Homes

Every Leominster home has the potential for a water intrusion event. Most of these incidents happen from a plumbing failure or a faulty appliance like a dishwasher. Far less likely is flooding coming in from the nearby Saw Mill Pond or Notown Reservoir.

Since water removal in Leominster is so important to restoring a home, it is part of the emergency services SERVPRO performs for every home. Each team of trained specialists breaks it down into two parts, removing standing water, and extracting water.

If the water is two inches or more high, specialists use one of the commercial pumps in our equipment inventory. Depending on the size of the home, they can pump the water out in usually a day or two. After finishing with the pumps, team members examine below the floors for additional water. If any is present, they remove it using smaller pumps similar to a water-vac.

Next comes the extraction process. Technicians use moisture meters to check how much water penetrated floorboards, carpets, and other parts of the home. After determining the extent of the water damage, other SERVPRO specialists move unaffected furniture out of the home and place affected pieces on blocks or pallets to dry.

Once technicians move the furniture, they begin drawing water from carpets and between floorboards using extraction wands. Team members can adjust the vacuum speed and use a built-in heating element to quickly and carefully dry the carpet without causing secondary damage to the carpet layers and the individual floorboards.

After extraction, technicians detach the carpet and raise it for drying, using a combination of air movers and exhaust fans to force dry air over and under the carpet while drawing the moist, cooler air out of the layers. At the same time, they also remove and dispose of the carpet pad since it deteriorates almost immediately after absorbing too much water.

These are two of the immediate actions SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster takes return every home to a dry, livable condition. If your residence has water, excess humidity, or a lingering odor left behind after a water intrusion event, call us today at (978) 537-1500 to set up a service call and start the removal process. We are here for you.

Call Our Trained Professionals To Restore Your Leominster Home After A Flood Damage Disaster

6/7/2019 (Permalink)

Water and wind can destroy building materials like sheetrock requiring a partial demolition.

Why You Need Professional Flood Damage Restoration in Leominster

Excessive and persistent rain can soak the ground and cause water to end up in different parts of a home, particularly the basement. If flood water encounters a home barrier that is not waterproof, it can seep inside and disrupt your normal way of life.

If water is not removed right away, the flood damage to your Leominster home can be significant. Flood water can drive mud and other sediments into your property, leaving a thick layer of the mess after the waters subside. It can also ruin drywall and insulation, electrical systems, gas systems, and HVAC systems. Garbage may also attract pests that can add more problems to an already complex situation.

Water can weaken the building structure and ruin the furnishings and other items inside. The basement can flood first since it is the lowest level of your home. High volumes of water can cause holes and cracks in your basement walls. It is dangerous to resolve this problem without an experienced water damage restoration technician (WRT). The water damage restoration professionals at SERVPRO can help you restore your home after it has flooded.

Our crews check the entire flooded area, including floors, subfloors, walls, insulation and surfaces like brick, hardwood, and concrete, which require specialty drying. We can use submersible pumps to extract all the standing water in your home and dry the affected areas properly and speedily to prevent secondary damage like mold growth and lingering smells.

Our SERVPRO technicians can remove any unsalvageable items and dispose of them properly while working efficiently to get your home back to its preloss state. We can set up air moving and dehumidification equipment in affected areas to remove moisture. We can also use thermal cameras to locate areas of dampness that may not be clear. Since floodwaters may contain bacteria, parasites, fungi and virus, our technicians use EPA-approved products to sanitize, decontaminate and deodorize the flood-damaged materials and areas. Our water extraction and drying processes emphasize documentation and monitoring to validate that a building is dry.

If there’s unwanted water in your home, contact the professionals at SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster immediately at (978) 537-1500 for cleanup and repairs. We have the staff and equipment to make a flood damage incident look “Like it never even happened.”

Don't take the steps all alone call SERVPRO to walk the steps with you.

SERVPRO’s how too for water damage.

If an appliance ever malfunctions inside your Leominster home, it is possible that many of your contents and building materials can get wet. Items like your dishwasher or washing machine have pipes running to them, and if a waterline leading to it breaks, you could suffer from extensive water damage. Any time your contents or building materials get wet it is wise to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO. We provide fast 24/7 service, and we can arrive at your residence shortly after your phone call. Our water damage restoration technicians or WRTs make up our highly trained team and have vast amounts of training and experience.

One thing that makes our SERVPRO crew stand out from the rest is the advanced technology we use during the restoration process. We have at our disposal industrially advanced equipment to aid our WRTs in conducting your water damage project in Leominster. As soon as we arrive at your house, we utilize specialized instruments to determine the extent of the issues. We use moisture sensors to figure out whether building materials such as your carpet and drywall got wet. We also test the air inside your house and take temperature and relative humidity readings.

When figuring out how wet your carpet got, we use a moisture sensor that is a large metal rod with probes on it that alerts our WRT if there is moisture present. To test your drywall and wooden studs we use an instrument that has two metal probes that get hammered into the material. We examine both areas that got affected and places we know that did not so we can determine a drying goal.

Once we figure out what got wet and what did not, we begin the extraction process. During extraction, we utilize a heavy-duty extractor with specialized tools. We have different tools for the various surfaces that got affected inside your home. If you ever need assistance after an appliance malfunction, call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 seven days a week.

Water Damage and Vapor Barriers in Your Leominster House

One of the elements in a Leominster home with the primary purpose of protecting structural elements from damage can also work against homeowners. Vapor barriers can keep moisture trapped in areas that then continue to deteriorate until the homeowner calls a professional restoration company like SERVPRO.

Moisture that settles under your Leominster area home's flooring can support widespread water damage when different layers act as a vapor barrier. The grout and glue that holds tiles intact over the subfloor acts as a vapor barrier and protects everything below from spills and minor leaks, helping preserve the property from minor emergencies.

SERVPRO professionals can detect the amount of moisture within an area, giving us information on which method can achieve optimal results. We look at the speed in which the area can become dry, as well as the impact of each method on the restoration stage. The floor's overall construction dramatically affects the decision. When we can drill ventilation holes into hidden areas, drying from the underside becomes possible. Doing so can help protect other areas from the effects caused by water damage.

Other vapor barriers that make drying severe include the back of cabinets when the wall and floor contain moisture, and also non-porous wallpapers, especially those made of vinyl. Drilling ventilation holes for our equipment can resolve the problem that such structures create more efficiently than temporarily removing them. However, wall coverings with the original purpose of keeping moisture out of the wall's interior now become almost impossible to dry completely.
SERVPRO technicians might need to remove these wallpapers so the interior of the wall can dry out. Replacing these costs less than reinstalling new walls, and also can occur much more quickly. Leaving them in place can lead to extensive damage behind the wall's surface, as well as potential microbial infestations.

Because moisture can invade your home from different places, water damage can happen anywhere inside your property. SERVPRO's specialists not only understand the most effective mitigation methods and related cost-effective restoration techniques but also practical ways to protect your home from future problems. We can help prevent future water damage in any area of your me.

Commercial Air Duct Cleaning In The Spring Ensures Better Indoor Air Quality For Tenants In Fitchburg

Both hotels and large apartment complexes in Fitchburg need to provide their occupants with safe conditions, including a high-quality indoor environment. The heating and cooling system requires maintenance of the HVAC system to continue working efficiently. Part of this includes the ducts themselves.

SERVPRO technicians in Fitchburg perform commercial air duct cleaning using different tools attached to lengthy augers. These brushes and air-whips loosen debris attached to the inner sides of ducts and make it possible for our negative airflow system to remove the debris. In large buildings, this debris can contain dust mite waste, pollen, pet dander, microbes, dust, hair, and other unwanted substances.

Setting up the negative air pressure system we need to use involves taping all of the vents closed with heavy plastic and non-marking tape. While we have the vent covers off, we wash these thoroughly to remove any debris and then dry them. We also clean any filters in the system. We trap everything that the negative air pressure system's suctioning extracts, so it does not end up outside, dirtying up your property's appearance.

We begin at the top level of the building and work our way down, floor by floor, removing the debris that might otherwise make your system work less efficiently because of reduced airflow and clogged areas. Bends in ducts can cause this easily and create blocked areas that cause tenants or guests to complain about heating or cooling issues, as well as adjusting their individual thermostats, resulting in higher utility bills.

Cleaner air is not the only reason to have ducts cleaned. The reduced risk of fire, as well as lower costs month-to-month, are equally valid reasons to have air ducts cleaned yearly. Pollen that comes in through open windows during the spring months can also cause problems for sensitive individuals whenever these tiny particles enter their dwelling space from the vents.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster can assist owners and managers of apartment complexes and hotels maintain their ventilation systems and improve the quality of the interior environment their tenants and guests experience. If you would like a free inspection and estimate for your property in Clinton, Pratt Junction, or Devens, call us at (978) 537-1500 for an appointment at your earliest convenience.

Mitigating Cooking Fire Damage in a Sterling Vacation Home

Cooking is a fantastic way to bond with your loved ones. Parents with sons or daughters learning to cook are often beaming with pride as they watch their children learn the skills that can aid them in adulthood. However, when food particles in the stove ignite and burn your budding chef's burgers to a crisp, it can be overwhelming to consider the fire damage that needs removal.

If you have a kitchen mishap that results in fire damage in your Sterling vacation home, the professional technicians at SERVPRO are ready to restore your kitchen to its pre-existing condition with industrial-grade tools, EPA-registered cleaners, and extensive knowledge of fire damage cleanup. Cleaning begins with scrubbing any damage from smoke off of surfaces and out of ventilation systems to ensure no spreading of soot or unpleasant odors. Objects in your home, such as kitchen appliances and windows, can also be cleaned to remove residue from fire damage and prevent corrosion of metals or electronics.

A critical part of a kitchen fire cleanup involving proteins such as red meat, poultry, or fish, is addressing the clear residue that such proteins leave behind. These residues can cause especially foul and long-lasting odors, particularly on porous surfaces like latex paint-covered walls. As a result, it is vital to clean every surface affected by protein residue to ensure that no odors can linger in your home.

To implement effective odor control in your kitchen, our SERVPRO technicians have a variety of tools and techniques at their disposal, such as HEPA air scrubbers with powerful activated carbon and potassium permanganate air filters to absorb odor-causing particles. ULV thermal foggers can also be used to address odors in confined spaces and work by binding with odor particles to eliminate unpleasant smells and make their source heavy enough to fall on surfaces for easy cleanup.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is ready to serve the area in disaster cleanup 24/7. If you need our services, call us today at (978) 537-1500.

We've Got You Covered After Your Home In Lancaster Experiences A Fire Damage Disaster

3/12/2019 (Permalink)

Give us a call at (978) 537-1500 as soon as the fire is out so we can clean and restore your home to a safe residence for you and your family.

Fire Damage Restoration For Your Lancaster Home

Fireplace safety begins with building your fire correctly, ensuring logs don’t roll out of the firebox and keeping sparks and flame safely inside. Fires in your Lancaster home can easily start when improperly using your fireplace or not keeping up with regular maintenance. It is essential to know how to take care of it to keep you and your family safe.

Fire damage and smoke damage in your Lancaster home should be taken care of right away. Settled smoke and soot continue to harm your structure until they are cleaned up. At SERVPRO, we are trained and experienced to handle these situations to return your home to the way it was, like nothing ever happened.

Opening the flue needs to be the first thing when lighting your fireplace. If you forget to do so, it causes your home to fill up with smoke, which can leave stains throughout your home. If you overload the firebox or are using an accelerant, a flue that is closed can also lead to flames spreading throughout your residence.

A main part of the restoration process is cleaning the soot and smoke particles. Every fire goes through stages, generating wet and dry smoke. Some create a big enough proportion of one kind of smoke, and SERVPRO techs use different cleaning methods to remove the various residues. Wet smoke is usually more difficult to remove than dry smoke. More materials can be restored in dry smoke conditions, as dry smoke carries few aerosols and deposits dry, small particles on surfaces. It also does not stain surfaces as intensely as wet smoke does, and the odor is less pungent.

Your fireplace should have both glass doors and a screen. The doors are made to prevent cold air from going through your fireplace when not in use. The screen stops embers and sparks from jumping out of the firebox. The screen should be closed as soon as you light the fire. If it is not, embers, sparks, and even flames can leave the firebox and start a fire in your house.

Keeping your chimney clean is also essential, as the creosote buildup from burning wood reduces the air flow. The more and more it collects, your chance of embers and sparks catching it on fire go up.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is here to help you if your home in Devens, Harvard, or Still River catches fire for any reason because of your fireplace. Give us a call at (978) 537-1500 as soon as the fire is out so we can clean and restore your home to a safe residence for you and your family.

Mold Damage Can Spell Big Trouble For Your Home In Sterling

2/26/2019 (Permalink)

You can depend on our technicians to respond quickly to remove active colonies and restore the damage they have caused.

How Mold Remediation In Your Sterling Home Can Save You Money

When people think of restoration or remediation for their Sterling property, one of the last things that they think of is how much money it can save them. While the initial expense of a service like this can seem steep, there are much costlier outcomes that can result from inadequate DIY removal strategies for mold growth in your home, not to mention the costs of hiring non-reputable “professionals” to take care of this problem for you.

Mold damage in your Sterling residence can pose many threats. Remediation works to isolate active colonization and prevent the organism from spreading further throughout your home. Our SERVPRO professionals have extensive training and IICRC certifications that allow us to be knowledgeable in mold varieties and the best approach to remove colonies from your property successfully.

Our process begins with containment, as this is the only effective means of preventing the spreading organism from reaching new materials and areas within your home. Through the application of advanced equipment like hydroxyl generators and air scrubbers, both fitted with HEPA filters, we can trap spores moving throughout the affected area. As an added layer of protection, our experts can install plastic sheeting along the perimeter of the work area to further reduce the spread of the organism.

How does remediation save you money? Without remediation, the organism continues to spread into areas that cannot get seen with the naked eye, continually degrading construction materials and posing health risks to your family. Inadequate removal of the colonies works similarly, as now you have already paid once for a job that was not thorough enough to remove the threat. Our SERVPRO professionals can see the process through from inspection to reconstruction, ensuring that you also have safeguards in place to reduce moisture that allowed the problem to occur in the first place.

While you might not think of professional mold remediation as something that can save you money, it doesn't take long to understand how getting the job done right the first time is a valuable and cost-effective strategy. You can depend on our SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster technicians to respond quickly to remove active colonies and restore the damage they have caused. Give us a call anytime at (978) 537-1500.

How Professionals Remediate Your Flood Damaged Sterling Home

2/13/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is ready to tackle your water restoration needs.

Why You Need Help Fixing Flood Damage in Sterling

The damages left by a flood on your property can be extensive depending on what transpires during the incident. For example, if the flooding happens during a storm, the water and winds can destroy building materials like drywall and others. Even in cases where the level of damages is not immediately apparent, it can be extensive because floodwaters permeate through materials such as carpets and baseboards. The water also reaches into enclosed spaces such as wall cavities and crawlspaces. We offer professional mitigation that can help restore your Sterling home to preloss state.

Unlike water spills, flood damage in Sterling is likely to involve an aspect of contamination. Therefore, trying to clean up the affected areas on your own can expose you to risks. As floodwaters flow, they collect contaminants like raw sewage, pesticides and pet wastes, which end up in your house. Our SERVPRO Franchise professionals wear the PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, enabling them to handle these wastes safely. We also spray EPA-registered disinfectants in the flooded sections to control contamination.

As the water soaks into building materials such as drywall, insulation, and others, it is likely to cause loss of structural integrity, loss or R-value or other problems. The best way to deal with such outcomes is to tear down the affected materials and replace them with new ones, which is backbreaking work to tackle on your own. Our SERVPRO Franchise professionals work as a team, and using advanced tools easily tackle demolition and rebuilding dealing with the damage "Like it never even happened."

Even after floodwaters outside the house recede, the standing water in the house remains. The longer such water remains in the structure, the higher the likelihood of causing secondary damage. Issues like mold infestation and deterioration of materials like wood, metal, and fabrics are just some of the secondary damages likely to happen. Our SERVPRO technicians help extract such water from the house fast using pumps or truck-mounted water extractors.

If your property floods, you should not hesitate to call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster. You can reach us at (978) 537-1500 any day. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

We Keep Mold Damage From Spreading in Your Sterling Area Residence with Containment Measures

Partnering with SERVPRO to keep your home in Sterling in great condition pays off. We have the tools and experience to perform a multitude of tasks that protect your investment from different kinds of harm. Our IICRC-certified specialists always take the time to listen to your concerns and to provide guidance on how you can take steps of your own that prevent damage from occurring.

Many homeowners rely on us to help keep their homes protected from the effects of mold damage in Sterling. The harm that an over-abundance of microbes can bring can encompass your entire home and the belongings used by your family every day. Many items that receive little use, such as those stored in closets, basements, and attics, can sustain microbial infestations that cause ruined memories and the need to replace items, as well as keep you from handing down otherwise perfectly good things to relatives and friends.

Because mold spreads relatively easily from one area of a house to another via spores, we at SERVPRO know we need to control this mechanism. Whenever mold senses a disturbance nearby, thousands of spores fly into the air. They then travel on air currents and end up in locations everywhere in the home, searching for water to start a new colony.

Negative air pressure chambers solve this problem. Using both plastic sheeting and a powerful HEPA-equipped air mover, we can work on a location infested with mold and mildew confidently. Knowing that we can protect your home in this manner and keep spores from contaminating your home's currently clean areas allows us to concentrate on the work fully.

During the cleanup of mold particles, spores, and debris from blasting in other areas, we use vacuums that have HEPA filters attached. HEPA filters trap microbes and their spores, keeping your home from sustaining future infestations.

To help increase the protection from microbial infestations in the future, our mold remediation specialists treat affected and nearby areas with antimicrobial liquids. This also traps any microorganisms that might have settled in the area and encapsulates them. As this liquid dries, it shrinks around microscopic particles and crushes them.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster can help you understand the importance of reduced humidity and the elimination of water leaks in your home and how these steps can help prevent mold damage. Preventing its growth is as important as keeping microbes from spreading. Call us at (978) 537-1500, 24/7, year-round, and we can make everything “Like it never even happened.”

Duct Cleaning Improves IAQ in Fitchburg Structures Says SERVPRO

SERVPRO Tells Fitchburg Homeowners to Keep the HVAC Ductwork Clean for Improved Indoor Air Quality

Why SERVPRO Handles Fitchburg Heater Duct Cleaning with Ease

HVAC systems play a crucial albeit unseen role in keeping homes and commercial establishments habitable by regulating temperature and air quality. Over time these systems accumulate contaminants ranging from dust, dander, smoke, mold, and pollen as air is circulated through the systems many times every day. Air duct cleaning can help remove these contaminants improving air quality and preventing other problems. For example, by keeping the furnace or heater ducts clean, “puff-back” can be avoided.

A thorough inspection is necessary during Fitchburg heater duct cleaning because many parts in the HVAC system collect dirt over time. Our SERVPRO technicians focus on the parts that require attention including supply ducts, return ducts, heat exchangers, the cooling coil, blowers and filters to ensure the air duct cleaning exercise we carry out addresses all issues.

Where the property is located as well as how the property is used determines the kind and level of contaminants likely to affect the HVAC system. Choosing air duct cleaning companies with the necessary equipment, skills, and experience helps ensure thorough cleaning. Our SERVPRO technicians are well-versed with different situation including removal of lint from clothes dryer vent in both commercial and residential properties. We also have specialized equipment for heater duct cleaning including wire extension brushes whisk brushes and powerful specialized vacuums for debris removal during cleaning.

Microbes like mold and even dust mites can develop in heater ducts. Since microbes grow over time, they can be harder to deal with compared to regular dirt. Besides, they are also likely to affect air quality. Our SERVPRO technicians combat these microorganisms by spraying antifungal and antimicrobial agents into the ducts. We use ULV foggers to deliver the cleaning agents effectively all over the ductworks, working from the inlets to the outlets. To limit chances of runs and drips, our technicians turn the fogger on and off periodically. In case of mechanical damage in the HVAC system, we involve a professional repair technician. However, our cleaning crews can patch up minor leaks.

A fully functional air conditioning system helps keep properties habitable. Call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 to help clean air ducts in your property. We deal with every aspect of the problem “Like it never even happened.”

Call SERVPRO To Restore Your Lancaster Business

SERVPRO professionals are trained to handle all types of water damage.

Complete Commercial Water Removal Must Include Walls to Protect Lancaster Office Buildings

A water leak anywhere in your office building can soak the area quickly. When your property in Lancaster sustains a water incident on one of the upper stories, lower floors can contain hidden water inside the walls and ceilings. SERVPRO technicians have specialized training and all of the latest equipment needed to get these enclosed areas dried out, so subsequent issues do not affect your property.

Water that flows down on the inside of your Lancaster property's walls causes water damage and affects ceilings, making commercial water removal necessary to prevent severe problems from affecting the condition of your building. While stained ceilings can take months to appear, microbial colonies can begin growing in as little as 24 hours after a leak releases water. Our specialists work as fast as possible to remove lost water and prevent such situations from increasing your restoration costs.

To accomplish this, we use thermal imaging devices that show in real time affected areas. The temperature on the surface of the walls changes enough to register on our equipment. We follow this up with moisture readers that accurately determine how much water the materials contain.

Typically, we can dry walls with our Injectidry system, which forces dry air into walled cavities. For solid walls, merely directing warm, dry air toward the affected wall at an angle pulls all of the moisture out rapidly enough to keep it from becoming damaged. Coverings made of vinyl can prevent this method from working adequately. Recovering a saturated wall after we remove the vinyl covering and dry the wall is much less costly than replacing the entire wall.

Because stretching is most likely to occur during removal, you need to decide what you want to cover the walls with after we finish. Once we restore dry conditions, we can also treat the bare wall with an anti-fungal agent. Adding protection like this dramatically increases the value of our services to you.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster has teams ready to resolve moisture problems in your office building in Still River, Sterling, and Clinton. Water damage removal teams work hard to restore dry conditions in your property. Call (978) 537-1500 to find out more about our services and how they can help you recover after a disaster.

How SERVPRO Removes Mold in Your Leominster Home

1/3/2019 (Permalink)

Mold easily grows in Leominster. Call SERVPRO at the first sign of mold damage.

Why SERVPRO For Mold Removal In Leominster

Although our community did not feel the worst of the storms that struck our state this year, Leominster residents still dealt with any number of weather-related issues. The temperatures and amount of rain still caused an incredible amount of damage. Another issue homeowners are now beginning to discover the mold that grows after all that water wakes mold spores out of their inert state.

Yes, it is cold outside, and mold rarely grows below 68 Degrees. So why do you need SERVPRO in your Leominster for mold removal? Because it is not 67 or below inside your home. It is probably a lot closer to 77. As long as mold has a range from 68 to 86 degrees, growth continues if it has sources of water and food.

To remove the mold, our restoration technicians can either clean the mold out of the home or eradicate an item if the mold had extended hyphae into the surface and grown into building materials like drywall, ceiling tiles, and support structures like wall framing.

SERVPRO technicians have an extensive inventory of anti-fungal cleaning agents that can kill spores and help break up massed layers of mold. For thick layers or rough surfaces like stone, they use a thicker cleaning agent and a brush or another agitation device to get to every mold spore.

For thicker layers of mold in an attic, technicians can also use a new method called soda blasting. Team members use a high-pressure device to fire a stream of sodium bicarbonate onto exposed surfaces. The powder is very abrasive and exceptionally useful for removing mold while causing no harm to the structural supports in the attic.

Where the mold did penetrate deeper into the material, it is usually cheaper to replace them than to attempt restoration. Drywall, in particular, crumbles easily after its physical integrity is disturbed by mold growth. For minor penetration into wall framing, it is possible for team members to sand down the surface to remove the mold in small areas. If the growth is into a majority of the surface area, then is cheaper to replace it than expend the labor hours to try and restore it.

No matter where you live along Routes 2 or 12, SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is here to help restore your residence to its pre-mold condition. To schedule a visit with an inspector or restoration team, call (978) 537-1500 today.

Preventative Steps to Avoid Mold Growth in Your Leominster Home

Every Leominster homeowner wants to do what it takes to keep disasters from impacting their property and their families. With this idea in mind, preventative steps might seem improbable for natural disasters, but not for circumstances that can ultimately cause the same degrees of damage such as mold growth. With certain precautions taken to prevent and actively deter mold colonization in your home, you can work to keep this situation from happening as much as possible which saves you time and money.

While many Leominster homeowners experience mold damages at some point in their home’s life, it does not have to be a bank-breaking ordeal. With the right steps getting taken immediately upon discovery, our experienced SERVPRO professionals can arrive to perform an honest assessment of the situation and get to work on containing the spread of the colony and preparing to remove the organism as efficiently and safely as possible.

Something that every homeowner can do to help reduce the possibility of mold growth in their home is to inspect all of the areas of your house regularly. Some people do not use areas of their property like their basement and attics. With regular inspections of these areas, a homeowner can remain informed about potential vulnerabilities and moisture breaches that leave the area feeling damp. These conditions are ideal for mold growth, so early identification of potential concerns can help reduce the spread of a mold colony significantly.

You cannot remove mold spores from the environment, so you must learn to reduce the ways that they can colonize. If you have areas of your property prone to dampness and moisture, our SERVPRO professionals would recommend a continual use of equipment like dehumidifiers to reduce the overall humidity in this area to prevent spores from sticking to surfaces ideal for their growth.

Finding the right professional assistance for mold growth in your home is not difficult to do, our SERVPRO of Fitchburg – Leominster remediation professionals are standing by 24/7 by calling (978) 537-1500.

Learn Effective Ways To Save Your Ceilings And Floors After Water Damage In Your Lancaster Home

12/12/2018 (Permalink)

Help is on it's way when you call a SERVPRO expert.

Wet Floors and Ceilings Require Different Water Extraction Methods in Lancaster Residences

Damaging incidents involving water can happen anywhere in your residence in Lancaster. When ceilings or floors become waterlogged, SERVPRO technicians can use highly effective equipment to get these portions of your property dry again.

Protecting your home in Lancaster from the effects of permanent damage by using water extraction techniques starts with your quick response to a water emergency. The earlier we can begin, the better results we can obtain for you. As always, our goal is to mitigate the damage and get your home's condition restored, so everything looks just “Like it never even happened.”

Hardwood floors that become overrun with water damage can look almost new again, saving our customers from the need to reinstall new flooring. We must begin water extraction and drying procedures as soon as possible to achieve great results. Our Injectidry equipment for this includes heated mats that force absorbed water to evaporate. Once water becomes airborne, the Injectidry system pulls it out of the flooring and into enclosed chambers, where it cannot escape.

Steady drying is key to getting the best results, so we continue to monitor the amount of moisture remaining in the floor. Hardwood must retain some moisture as becoming too dry can also create damage to the wood boards. Checking for cupping or crowning after we finish assures the homeowner of an excellent job that protects their investment and the beauty of their home.

Ceilings can become saturated with water from broken pipes, a leaky roof, overflows, or even a window left open during a rain shower. Water in a ceiling can cause injuries if it falls on someone. SERVPRO technicians test for the presence of water and the need for draining it from the ceiling's cavity. When water does exist, we drill tiny weep holes near the outside perimeter of the water, allow it to drain, and repeat until we reach the center of the 'puddle,' where we drill the final weep hole.

Afterward, and for wet ceilings that do not retain water, we use a single air mover after attaching some flexible tubing to force air into the ceiling. We prefer to use an already existing hole, such as a light fixture's space. Without any new holes to patch up, we can finish that much sooner and let your family get things back to normal.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster also answers calls for Clinton, Devens, and Still River. When you need water extraction and drying professionals to preserve your home and protect it, call us at (978) 537-1500. Emergencies happen at any hour, unexpectedly, which is why we are always here, ready to answer your questions and give you information on how we can help you.

Soda Blasting, Ice Blasting, and Sand Blasting after Major Fire Damage in Leominster

12/7/2018 (Permalink)

Our technicians have state-of-the-art equipment to conquer any fire and soot damage!

House Fires Cause Tremendous Damage & Headaches - SERVPRO Can Provide Peace of Mind

Most of the time when we talk about the restoration of homes after a fire, we are talking about soot and smoke removal. However, when fires burn at a high temperature, they can cause structural damage as well. These types of fire are generally referred to as major and leave behind charred furniture, structure, and fittings. Despite the seemingly permanent impact, many of these items can be restored rather than replaced using the right equipment.

Severe fire damage in Leominster homes requires intense restoration efforts. At SERVPRO, we use IICRC certified technicians who know how to remove, replace or restore items as well as which parts can be salvaged. Where substantial damages are present, we may have to pack out items to a nearby cleaning facility to fully restore them using ultrasonic cleaning methods.

As for the structure, a careful assessment and pre-test of materials can be carried out by your SERVPRO technician. Although a test process may seem time-consuming, it is an essential part of the work we do. For natural materials, the use of a sandblaster can help to remove charring without the expense of replacing furniture or structure. This equipment removes the charring layer by layer leaving behind a smooth, remediated surface. For your homes more delicate items soda, or ice blasting can be equally effective at removing damage but are less abrasive than sandblasting. However, we need to test the materials before we can apply equipment like this so we can ensure the right outcomes are achieved.

In any fire, the lingering odor of charred materials can be an unpleasant reminder of the event for a homeowner. SERVPRO is certified in odor control techniques using water-based or desiccant chemical foggers to help find and neutralize unpleasant odors. A thorough deodorization of your home can make the fire damage seem "Like it never even happened."

Got Excess Moisture After A Flood In Your Harvard Home? Our Team Can Make It “Like it never even happened.”

Flooding is not an everyday event, but when it happens, it can cause severe loss.

Dealing With Moisture After Flood Damage In Harvard

Flooding is not an everyday event, but when it happens, it can cause severe loss. What can make a difference are the response measures taken after such an incident affects your Harvard property. There is a need to secure the structure and its contents to halt further damages. Removal of contaminants introduced to the structure is also essential as well as moisture control. The need to finish those steps within a reasonable period is also crucial because the longer it takes, the higher the likelihood of further complications arising. As IICRC certified restoration service, we can help you tackle the situation better.

Before starting the restoration of flood damage in Harvard, it is necessary to evaluate the percentage of the structure ruined. Water has varying effects on contents and different parts of the structure. Issues like water spots, swelling, and color bleeding effect upholstery items. In wooden furniture and parts of the structure, problems like warping weak joints, and general loss of structural strength in particle boards. Using moisture sensors and meters, our SERVPRO technicians can accurately tell the extent of the damage.

Saving items, both affected and unaffected, is vital when dealing with flood damage. Various actions can help achieve this objective. Performing a flood-cut two feet above the waterline helps stop moisture migration on walls through absorption. Removing the carpet and other floor coverings help quicken drying of wooden floors, preventing problems such as buckling and warping. Our SERVPRO crew also moves items from affected areas.

A flood-damaged structure requires thorough drying after cleanup to prevent additional problems like mold growth. Several factors including temperature, humidity, amount of water to be evaporated, and air movement affect the drying process. We focus on thorough water extraction before starting other drying procedures to increase effectiveness. One truck-mounted extractor can remove 36,000 gallons per day compared to a dehumidifier, which only manages 30 gallons per day. The ideal temperatures for drying are between 70° and 80°, so if heating is not available in the house, our SERVPRO technicians use portable heaters.

Excess moisture in a flooded property can cause significant problems. SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster can help you take corrective measures. You can reach us at (978) 537-1500 any time.

How We Restore Your Water Damaged Carpet In Your Lancaster Home

11/5/2018 (Permalink)

Water cleanup services are meant to return the structure to its earlier state, or even better before the water incident took place.

Reliable Water Cleanup Services To Restore Soiled Carpets In Your Lancaster Property

Water cleanup services are meant to return the structure to its earlier state, or even better before the water incident took place. We choose an appropriate cleaning procedure to clean restorable materials such as subfloors and walls. We understand that different surfaces and items in your Lancaster home have different cleaning needs, so, we consider that when we are working for you.

Carpets get exposed to different soling levels after a water event, so our SERVPRO technicians must factor that when offering water cleanup services in Lancaster. In some instances, the dirt can penetrate deep into the fibers, and in some situations, it can be resting on the fiber tips. Also, the source of the water may determine the aggressiveness of the cleaning method we decide to use. For instance, we use more aggressive techniques when we are restoring carpets exposed to gray water.

Our SERVPRO technicians use rotary jet extraction when cleaning deeply soiled carpets. It is an intensive cleaning method that restores heavily soiled and matted carpets. The Rotary Jet Extractor has spray jets and a vacuum head that clean the carpet fiber, fluff up and restore the pile. The vacuum system helps in collecting dry soils.

If your carpet is moderately soiled, our SERVPRO technicians can use hot water extractions. During this method, we inject a deluxe pre-conditioner or any appropriate cleaning agent into the carpet's fibers at high pressure. The pressure forces the soil to be lifted, and then we use a powerful vacuum to do the removal. To thoroughly rinse the pre-conditioner, we pass a rotary extractor or a wand over the surface. We can then use a carpet brush or groom to remove the visible wand lines and reset the carpet pile. Our team performs bonnet carpet cleaning when cleaning lightly soiled carpets. The method cleans the top area of the fibers.

At SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster, We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster whether it is in your home or business. We offer 24-hour emergency cleaning and restoration services to return your property to its preloss state, if not better. Call (978) 537-1500 to get immediate help.

SERVPRO Can Help You Recover From A Commercial Flood Damage Disaster In Your Harvard School

10/22/2018 (Permalink)

Regardless if it is from a broken pipe or a storm moving in off the coast, nearly everyone knows when to call in a professional restoration service.

Eliminating Commercial Flood Damage In Harvard Schools

Harvard residents are well acquainted with flooding around our town. Regardless if it is from a broken pipe or a storm moving in off the coast, nearly everyone knows when it is time to call in a professional restoration service.

Commercial flood damage in Harvard centers around what it does to our schools. As a locally owned franchise, SERVPRO understands this does not mean the University. Our community has some of the finest public schools, and our students test out with some of the best scores in Math and English in the state and the country. When flooding closes school doors to students, it can put their future at risk.

Although Bare Hill Pond can flood and cause problems, most of our area flooding comes from the storms that affect us every year. When flooding is from an outdoor source such as these, there is also the threat of contaminated water entering into classrooms and cafeterias. That can include soil, fertilizers from lawns and area farms, and even animal feces and urine.

To restore and reopen our schools, SERVPRO technicians start by spraying down the standing water and every surface that might have been affected with a strong, anti-bacterial agent. Spraying reduces the risk to property and protects both our restoration teams and school workers. After the chemical has time to take effect, our teams begin removing the water using pumps and extraction wands. Together, these devices can draw out nearly all standing water from a facility.

As we finish removing the water, other technicians begin wiping down everything the water covered or touched. In classrooms and other common areas, this means cleaning desks and chairs with the same agents and examining furniture for signs of damage. Depending on the severity, our teams may recommend disposal if restoration is not cost-effective.

For cafeterias and kitchens, cleaning is even more important. Although we do not disassemble ovens or freezer units, we do wipe down every visible surface and crawl under appliances when possible to ensure everything is ready to support the student population once more.

Our goal at SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster after a flood is to help every school and other commercial facilities reopen to support our local population. If you need our services, call us today at (978) 537-1500 to schedule a visit and start the restoration process. We are here for you.

How to Get Rid of Odors in Lancaster After a Fire

10/14/2018 (Permalink)

Smoke damage, residues, and odors are common after a fire. Contact SERVPRO to investigate and eliminate.

Eliminating the Lingering Effects of Fire Damage in Lancaster

When there is a fire in your Lancaster property, some of the effects can linger long after the incident. It might be surprising, but the minor effects of the fire such as bad odors or discolored surfaces are the most likely to last long. Addressing these problems requires the removal of all the debris left by the fire. Our professional restoration services can help you do this with ease.

Identifying all the residues left helps deal with the lingering effects of fire damage in Lancaster. Remains such as smoke particles can reach deep into surfaces because the heat from the blaze opens up pores embedding residue deeply. Even residue left on the surface only might have serious effects. For instance, soot tends to be acidic and therefore discolors surfaces such as marble. Through pretesting, our SERVPRO technicians can identify different remains and their effects thus determining the best method to eliminate them.

The testing done before restoration should focus on various aspects that determine the level of difficulty faced in removing residues. Apart from checking how porous the surface is our SERVPRO technicians consider its age too. It is essential to do this because old surfaces retain more deposits making them harder to clean. The amount of moisture in the loss environment also matters because higher levels settle residues making them more likely to cause permanent stains. Moisture could be a result of the water used to quell the fire or humid weather.

Since the type of materials burnt in the fire affects the residues produced, different procedures might be necessary to eliminate them. Residue from synthetic materials is harder to remove compared to residue from natural materials because in most cases, it is wet and smeary thus adhering firmly to the affected surfaces. Our SERVPRO team uses various techniques to deal with such deposits. Applying chemical agents helps in dissolving or suspending them. Agitation helps when there is strong adhesion, while pressure washing helps penetrate deeper into the material removing residues as well as traces of the cleaning agents used.

Stains and bad smells can be hard to eliminate after a fire. Contact SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster to assist. You can reach us at (978) 537-1500 any time of the day.

Although it might not appear so, cold winters in Lancaster present a higher risk of flooding.

Preparation Helps Minimize Effects Of Flood Damage In Lancaster

Although it might not appear so, cold winters in Lancaster present a higher risk of flooding. Various reasons contribute to this added danger. If snow piles up around the property, it can release a considerable amount of water around the property some of which might flood the property when it starts to melt. Commercial Water Damage Crews in Leominster Talk About the Use of Fans

9/18/2018 (Permalink)

When a pipe break scenario sends your employees to work from another office or home, contact SERVPRO to mitigate the situation.

Team SERVPRO Understands How to Efficiently Dry Out Your Business After a Water Damage Incident

Disasters happen to everyone in Leominster from time to time, and your office complex is not free from the risk of something going wrong. Since most offices are unoccupied at night, a pipe break during off-hours can send thousands of gallons of H2O into your office overnight forcing you to deal with a commercial water damage issue first thing in the morning. Offices have many electronic items that can break and be costly to repair if damaged by moisture. Building materials inside your structure are also at risk because they can get saturated and deteriorate. Once water enters the interior of your complex, the commercial water damage problems get worse the longer things inside stay wet.

If moisture spilled into your building all night long, the problems might be severe. The more moisture that gets inside a structure, the more complex your Leominster commercial water damage project will be. Especially if the issue comes from units above your unit, water can drench everything from the ceiling down. If the moisture stays in your office for too long, the water itself can keep ruining items as time goes by as well as be the cause of microbial growth. Therefore, prompt mitigation work performed by SERVPRO immediately after you notice a problem can save your company lots of dough in the long run.

If your office carpets get saturated, then our SERVPRO team might move out all of your desks and office supplies so that we can extract moisture out of the carpet quickly. After our extractor doe what it can, we then commence the rapid drying stage to drop moisture levels of your building materials. During the drying phase, various types of equipment get used depending on your specific situation.

One key element to drying out a structure quickly is to create massive air circulation. In some cases, our SERVPRO technicians set up air movers in a circular motion to help push wet air away from the surface of damp materials. In other cases, we set up heavy duty box fans to create a strong draft of air. It is possible to dry out a building using air from the outside but it is more common to seal off the building so that we can create the ideal rapid drying environment.

If you ever suffer a water leak inside your office complex overnight and the effects the next morning look severe, call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 any hour of the day.

Why Professional Mold Remediation Services Reduce Chances For Errors In Leominster

9/11/2018 (Permalink)

Performing a site-specific risk evaluation and control assessment is very important during mold damage remediation.

Professional Mold Remediation Services

Performing a site-specific risk evaluation and control assessment is very important during mold damage remediation. It is because all sites are unique and entering a site without performing a full evaluation to determine whether it is safe is discouraged. During this assessment, we check out for wood rot, sagging roofs, and cracks on floors, as well as the interior and exterior walls. We also check whether the electrical circuits are grounded or if their path is broken - electrical shock is likely to occur when that happens. It is also essential to turn off the gas line to you Leominster property.

Our SERVPRO technicians use ventilation techniques when performing mold damage remediation in Leominster. For example, we may run a powerful exhaust fan on the site to offer ventilation and avoid infiltration of mold spores to the adjoining areas. We are careful when setting up the exhaust fans, for instance, we cannot place it near a window when it is so close to that of a neighboring building.

Containment is another crucial aspect during mold cleanup and treatment. Our main goal is to separate clean areas from contaminated areas and lower the contamination risk. We do this by hanging a poly-sheeting to separate the two areas and introduce a plywood pathway when the site has damaged floorboards. We can stable the four corners of the plastic or use masking tape to make sure it is firmly attached.

Establishing a safety and cleanup location is vital during the mold remediation process. This is an area where our SERVPRO technicians use to wash up when taking a break or when we have to treat any minor accidents. The area has trash bags, paper towels, drinking water, a scrub brush, and a first aid kit. Our team understands the importance of teamwork and communication when it comes to reducing errors and conflicts for a successful remediation process.

Lancaster Fire Damage? Call SERVPRO for a Speedy and Money Saving Cleanup and Restoration

SERVPRO Provides Expert Fire & Smoke Cleanup and Restoration in the Lancaster Area

Firefighters do an exceptional job putting out the blaze and protecting you, your family,  and your home from immediate danger. However, once the dust settles, the process of rebuilding begins. That is when calling in professional, qualified fire loss technicians could help restore the property safely.

Properties with fire damage in Fitchburg-Leominster can benefit from an immediate assessment by taking into account personal items, electronics and restoration options. Using specialized equipment combined with extensive experience in dealing with issues like these, a SERVPRO fire technician is just a phone call away.

The extent of damage and the necessary remediation varies from property to property. Materials react to high temperatures in different ways with some becoming toxic or others at risk of causing further damage if they are not treated properly or removed from the premises. Plastics and enamels are particularly high-risk as well as electronics which can react with soot or smoke residue.

During our assessment, a visual inspection takes place. The inspection is designed to gauge health risk as well as the extent of damage suffered during the fire. We can measure the levels of carbon monoxide and other potentially harmful gasses in each room to ensure your safety first. Electronic equipment needs to be removed, inspected and carefully cleaned to ensure no lasting damage. This service must be performed by an outside contractor. We can wipe down exteriors of sensitive devices only. Your furniture can be cleaned using a small wand and vacuum and perhaps foam cleaning to treat upholstery. Even personal belongings of sentimental value can be submitted for restoration including, where possible, photographs.

The extent and depth of the fire loss dictate what we as fire damage restoration technicians can salvage. What we can do is work with a restore over replace mentality. Removing infrastructure is exceptionally costly. Where possible, SERVPRO can restore your home by removing all soot and smoke, carrying out water removal (if necessary), cleaning, sanitizing and deodorizing your home. In extreme cases, immediate board-up and roof-tarps services may be available to prevent on-going damage.

Mold Damage Remediation With Minimal Disruption To Your Harvard Business

8/14/2018 (Permalink)

Mold damage in your Harvard business stems from excessive moisture, not a lack of cleanliness.

Mold Damage Remediation

Among the various types of damage your Harvard business can experience, a mold infestation causes more than its share of concern. Finding mold growing in your commercial building requires you to arrange a fast and professional response. Rest assured that our mold remediation experts have the training, experience, and the specialized equipment to get the job done quickly with less impact on your operations than you expect.

Mold damage in your Harvard business stems from excessive moisture, not a lack of cleanliness. Water damage ranging from seemingly insignificant hairline cracks in a pipe to a major flooding event and everything in between can provide the fuel for a mold outbreak. The mold spores are always present, waiting for an opportunity to absorb available moisture to promote their growth into a colony. Your vigilance in providing a rapid response to any moisture issues avoids most mold issues. If a hidden leak or even abnormally high humidity feeds a multiplying mold problem, we are ready to help.

SERVPRO mold remediation follows EPA, OSHA, and IICRC guidelines and protocols, and well as any applicable local regulations. The basic protocol is to contain, remove, and disinfect the mold colonies and residues. When done by our certified technicians we are often able to confine the project so that at least a portion of your business operations can continue while remediation occurs.

The crew we send assesses the extent of the mold involvement, aware that mold does not need light to grow. It frequently thrives in cavities unseen. Our remediation is not complete until we abate even that hidden fungal growth. Once SERVPRO establishes the mold perimeter, we contain the affected space, using heavy plastic sheeting as a physical barrier. We almost always add a negative pressure air scrubbing system to prevent mold materials from escaping the containment area, using temporary ductwork to vent and HEPA filters to filter the contaminated air.

Our team mechanically removes the mold from solid surfaces, scraping or wiping. SERVPRO also employs a soda blasting technique that uses an abrasive solution of sodium bicarbonate to loosen mold and its “roots” or hyphae from porous materials. We follow up with thorough vacuuming with HEPA filters keeping the airborne debris from spreading. EPA registered antimicrobials treat the cleaned and nearby surfaces to inhibit future growth.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster has practical and efficient methods to remediate your commercial mold damage quickly. Call us at (978) 537-1500 to set up an assessment.

Ways Professionals Combat Odors Associated with Water Damage in Lancaster Homes

8/1/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Freshens Lancaster House Odors after Water Damaging Events

It can be a frustrating experience trying to deal with flooding in your home on your own because apart from draining the water, other problems can crop up. Combating bad odors is one of these additional quandaries most homeowners like you have to deal with, yet many do not know that we offer professional remedial services that cover these secondary problems.

After a case of water damage in Lancaster, some issues can cause the bad smells that you are facing. When the floodwater on your property mixes with sewage or trash, the contaminants might reach areas with limited accessibility. Left in place, they emit objectionable odors, and your property can only be pleasantly habitable when the source is discovered and cleaned. When you call SERVPRO, we can place masking agents in the form of pellets that slowly release an agreeable scent to cover up the odors. This is a short-term measure to make your property habitable immediately, and more pleasant for us to continue with combatting the malodorous particulates in the air. Our technicians then find the best way to remove the contaminants, which can guarantee long-term results. Removing the standing water quickly helps mitigate the accompanying odors.

When floodwater dilutes pet waste and other forms of soil in your home, the result can be a stench. This is because of the absorption of the contaminants by any cloth materials present in the affected area. Carpets and couches are the worst culprits. Using specialized equipment like Ultra Low Volume foggers, which produce a fine mist to penetrate deep into the affected area, the SERVPRO technician can mitigate the odor. The contents in the mist include a pairing agent that combines with the odor particles bringing them to the surface for easier cleanup.

Moisture can also cause pungent smells that also lead to the development of mold. Using dehumidifiers, our technicians can extract moisture even in concealed spaces of your home. We also use disinfectants and sanitizers to clean and inhibit mold growth in the affected area. By deploying hydroxyl generators, we can neutralize pungent smells in the air returning your home environment to its preloss condition. The IAQ indoor air quality can be further purified with the use of an industrial-grade air scrubber fitted with both a HEPA and activated charcoal filter.

You should call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 for advice and assistance. Our crew can offer lasting solutions using the right equipment and techniques.

Annual Inspections Can Help Prevent Flood Damages In Your Lancaster Home

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

Failure to find these weak points can lead to situations where you require professional restoration like SERVPRO to handle flood damages to your home.

Annual Inspections Can Help Prevent Flood Damage

Annual inspections of your Lancaster home can help you prevent much of the catastrophic damages it can sustain through the barrage of severe weather expected in nearly all of the seasons throughout the year. Unfortunately, this is one of the many things that homeowners in the area neglect to do, allowing their houses and families to become adversely and substantially affected by the storms yet to come.

There are many things that a home inspection can clue you in on, helping you to find vulnerable areas of your home's construction and repair them before it turns into a much larger problem. Failure to find these weak points can lead to situations where you require professional restoration like SERVPRO to handle flood damages to your Lancaster residence.

One of the focal points of inspection is the basement and foundation of your home. These areas tend to get affected by both moisture and running water underground, as well as fail when threatened by surface floodwaters, so having this blockwork is critical to preventing a later flood. SERVPRO professionals can repair small breaks and vulnerable areas with hydraulic cement upon discovery.

Another area that requires inspection on an annual basis is the siding and roof of your home. While these might not be areas of expertise for our technicians, having this assessment performed is essential all the same. This process can help you to determine if any damage has already occurred to these vital components of your exterior, and give you the opportunity to fix them before the situation becomes dire.

Any of these points of entry can allow high volumes of water into your home unabated. The subsequent damages can leave you with much irreparable damage and often a long-spanning restoration project to bring your property back to its original condition.

This understanding is why regular inspections of the stability and structural integrity of your home are so vital. If you already have flood damages affecting your home, or want to know a little more about inspections to help prevent disasters from striking your house, give our SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster technicians a call today at (978) 537-1500.

Material Replacement in Mold Remediation for Your Leominster Home

7/11/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Can Include Demolition in Your Leominster Basement, Call SERVPRO for Help

SERVPRO Can Utilize Many Methods for Mold Cleanup and Restoration

Sometimes the discovery of mold in your Leominster home comes long after the materials can get salvaged or saved. Within a short period, active colonies can erode and degrade construction materials and fabrics in your home to the point that there is little left of them. Part of the remediation process for mold growth is assessing the full scope of the damage which affects your home, and what has to get done to restore it.

You might not know that mold growth is simple to occur given the right circumstances. With persistent dampness and warmth, mold damages can occur to organic materials in your Leominster home in as little as 3 days. With a sufficient amount of time attacking various materials, flooring, ceilings, and contents of your home, the damage could prove irreparable.

This scenario is one that our SERVPRO technicians, unfortunately, see from time to time. To prevent further damages, the removal of the colony has to be a priority for our technicians. Once this process completes, a better assessment can get made into what materials must get removed and replaced to restore your home successfully.

Many times this irreparable damage happens with drywall in affected areas. With the composition of this material, mold spores can seat easily and spread quickly. It's thin makeup also plays a role in the irreparable damage it can sustain, as mold colonies do not have to penetrate deeply into the cardboard backing to affect the entire depth.

Fortunately, drywall removal is a fast process. This demolition can provide a more efficient approach than merely trying to remove the colony. With an overall replacement, removal procedures like sanding and soda blasting can be set aside for a more efficient and cost-effective rebuild instead. Though we strive to restore and not replace, the best interest of our customer is always our number one priority.

Mold damage in your home is nothing that you want to find or have the training to handle on your own. With the right professional help from our SERVPRO of Fitchburg - Leominster mold remediation specialists, we can remove this health hazard from your home quickly and efficiently. Give us a call anytime at (978) 537-1500.

Get Your Basics Right When Performing Water Removal In Leominster

7/5/2018 (Permalink)

Extraction is part of the water removal procedures that we perform when restoring your property after a water event.

Water Removal

Extraction is part of the water removal procedures that we perform when restoring your property after a water event. Even if the source of water intrusion was from a broken pipe, storm, clogged shower or a burst sewage backup, never waste time. If the water stays in your property for a longer time, there is a possibility of experiencing further damage. Professionals use the right equipment when working on your Leominster property, and in this post, we are going to look at some of these devices.

After offering water removal services in Leominster, our SERVPRO team also cleans your contents - such as upholstery and carpets. The extractors we use are so unique such that they can both remove the water and clean items. By using pumps and wet vacuums, we can remove any standing water from the structure. We always ensure the area we are working on is safe and as a result turn off all electrical circuits to prevent possible electrocution.

Even after pumping and vacuuming out the water, some water may remain hidden within the padding and carpeting. To address such situations, our SERVPRO technicians use weighted extractors. However, we are careful with the weight we apply so that we do not damage the carpets. By using moisture sensors and meters, we are in a position to detect the water that hides behind walls and cabinets.

To dry the area, our SERVPRO technicians might set up space heaters, air movers, and dehumidifiers. Air movers and heaters enhance water evaporation into the air, and in the end, the humidity of the structure may end up becoming so high. We have to perform dehumidification to control the additional moisture. Usually, we prefer using refrigerant dehumidifiers when the humidity is still so high - usually at the start. In cases where the structural materials are wet, but porous items within it are dry, we use desiccant dehumidifiers.

Our goal at SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is to make your property “Like it never even happened” after a water damage disaster. Call us at (978) 537-1500 if you need to work with a trusted industry leader who is Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Unfortunately, mold finds ways to flourish in the very same settings. Our mold remediation crews can help.

Commercial mold damage in your Leominster event venue is the ultimate party crasher. Even though your space is cleaned and decorated regularly, mold growth can happen. In fact, the constant turnover from event to event can be part of the problem. You and your staff experience pressure to get ready for the next booking in only hours. Professional mold remediation seems too intrusive and time-consuming but is the strategy you need for a long-term solution.

Your housekeeping staff may be trying to manage what seem to be minor mildew or mold problems on the fly, using surface treatments like diluted bleach. Often this approach merely reduces staining, not penetrating deeply enough to reach all of the hyphae in the drywall, grout, or other surfaces the mold invaded. The water in your employee’s solution also fuels further growth of the existing colony and can encourage any other nearby mold spores to begin new colonies.

SERVPRO remediation specialists understand the complexities of abating mold damage and use a multi-step plan to eliminate current fungi, inhibit additional growth, and plan to rid your business of the moisture that causes molds to grow. We assess the affected space, establishing the extent of the mold involvement. Our crew goes beyond the superficial, searching for hidden mold behind walls and woodwork, under curtains and floors, and in a broad range of other recesses and crevices.

SERVPRO technicians then contain the affected areas, using physical barriers or negative pressure air scrubbers to filter out moldy debris during cleaning. Scraping and employing abrasives like soda, we remove the mold, vacuuming up residual debris with HEPA-fitted equipment. Follow up includes treatment with an EPA registered antimicrobial on surfaces.

We are keenly aware your facility is in constant use, so we do everything in our professional power to limit the remediation activities to specific areas and off-times for your operations. Our technicians are fast but thorough, abating the mold damage and identifying the likely ways water invaded so arrangements can be made to eliminate the moisture to avoid future mold damage.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster uses EPA developed mold remediation protocols to respond to your business’s microbial infestation crisis. Call us at (978) 537-1500 to set up an evaluation and work on a plan to manage your mold issues.

How Does A Fast Call To SERVPRO Help With Flood Damage In Sterling?

5/17/2018 (Permalink)

One of the worst disasters that can befall a home in Sterling is flood damage, which can occur after any significant storm passing through the area.

A Fast Call To SERVPRO Will Help With Flood Damage

One of the worst disasters that can befall a home in Sterling is flood damage, which can occur after any significant storm passing through the area. While some floods require professional water removal and damage restoration teams to clean up, it may be less evident whether or not you need help for lighter flooding. Failing to call in a professional, certified cleanup company like SERVPRO opens your home up to a range of risks and additional types of damage that can become far more severe with time. Be sure to call SERVPRO as soon as possible after a disaster to avoid many of these consequences.

Foundation Destruction
Flood damage to homes in Sterling can cause irreparable destruction to the foundation and structural elements of the building, potentially tearing the place apart from the core if left unattended. Water can seep into cracks that may be so small as to be invisible to the naked eye, slowly gnawing away at materials and causing physical damage through expansion and contraction due to heat. If the flooding happens during the colder months of the year, the water may even freeze and accelerate the process.

Mold Damage
Without fast and thorough water extraction, your home may become vulnerable to mold growth. In addition to causing permanent visual marring and giving the air a foul odor, some types of mold may also cause health effects with prolonged exposure. SERVPRO provides professional and safe mold remediation services alongside our regular flood damage procedures to ensure a smooth and stress-free process even if mold does find its way into your home.

Fabric Deterioration
Carpeting, drapes, furniture, and other types of fabric in your home may be much easier to salvage if you can get SERVPRO to the door quickly after a flood. Without fast action, some fabrics may begin to break down and deteriorate, forcing us to replace them rather than attempt restorations.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster acts fast after every local disaster to provide emergency damage mitigation and restoration services to homeowners in the area. Call us 24/7 at (978) 537-1500.

Deodorization During Mold Remediation In Your Leominster Home

5/3/2018 (Permalink)

Don't Let Mold Make Your Leominster Home Smell Like Bleu Cheese--Call SERVPRO for Remediation

Leominster Mold Removal and Odor Control Are Essential for Healthy IAQ Indoor Air Quality

One of the tell-tale signs of mold growth in your Leominster residence is a musty odor. This scent indicates that mold colonies have formed and are beginning to thrive, which can also be a clear sign to call in professional remediators to help you to remove these damaging colonies and also remove that lingering persistent odor from the affected area of your home.

While there are undoubtedly many steps to remediating the mold damages to your Leominster residence, correcting this harsh smell is one that always has to happen. Fortunately, our SERVPRO professionals have the experience and the equipment to not only tackle this odor in the environment in this affected area of your home but also to deodorize the contents of your home as well that absorbed it.

The areas where deodorization needs to happen get noted in the initial inspection conducted by our SERVPRO professionals when we arrive at your home. Often deodorization is saved as one of the last things that occur to your home before completing the remediation process, but this is to ensure that we are not continually combatting it while we work to remove mold colonies and the subsequent damages they have caused.

For this process to be a success, the rest of the restoration and remediation needs to occur, which includes both the removal of the existing colonies and the extraction/drying of the moisture and dampness found that allow the spores to seat and thrive.

Deodorization typically uses thermal fogging. This machine emits a chemical compound which reacts with these overwhelming odors in the environment and neutralizes them on contact. The odorless compound leaves no aroma behind. Additionally, this process can get used for fabrics, furniture, draperies, textiles and more to remove the blatant musty scent of the former mold colonies. Air scrubbers fitted with HEPA and activated charcoal filters help to eliminate the odors and airborne particles during the actual work.

Fighting mold damage in your home comes in several unique steps. While you might not be aware of all of the pieces that make up the whole of restoration and remediation, our SERVPRO of Fitchburg - Leominster technicians can help you to see its effectiveness through their efforts in your home. Give us a call at the first sign of mold at (978) 537-1500.

That means you should act quickly and work with professionals that offer restoration and cleaning services in Sterling. By doing that, it is easy to know the contents you can salvage and in the process mitigate the damage.

Let us begin by understanding the principles of cleaning that our SERVPRO technicians use when attending to fire damage incidents in Sterling. Our primary goal is to return your contents to their preloss state, and we begin by doing a site inspection which helps us trace the smoke residues and how far the smoke has moved. We then go ahead and analyze the type of smoke residues, since there is a possibility of having different kinds in the same location and that means using more than one cleaning technique.

Our SERVPRO technicians also look at the type of surface where the particles are resting on since that also helps us when choosing an appropriate cleaning procedure. At this point, we are ready to capture and remove the smoke particles either through wet or dry cleaning procedures. It is also our work to dispose of the waste and debris we end up with after cleaning your property.

When we want to dislodge soils from hard surfaces, we may decide to use mechanical action. In most cases, we use the process before implementing other cleaning actions such as lubrication, chemical action suspension, and dispersion. Some areas are too fragile and using aggressive agitation may cause damage and to avoid that, we may use absorption. Our SERVPRO technicians can apply an absorbent powder on delicate surfaces to absorb residues, and after that, we use vacuum-cleaning to remove them from porous surfaces.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is a trusted industry leader in mold, fire, water, storm and fire damage restoration. Call us at (978) 537-1500 when you face any size disaster, and we can make it “Like it never even happened.”

Water Damage from a Roof Leak in Your Fitchburg Home

4/7/2018 (Permalink)

A damaged roof can leak into your home causing extensive water damage.

Call the Expertly Trained Professionals at SERVPRO for Water Damage Restoration

In theory, a flat roof in Fitchburg should be as good as a sloped roof. However, when things go wrong, there can be a host of problems. Despite the name, flat roofs typically do have a slight gradient. Sometimes debris, branches, and leaves can build up on your roof, creating enough weight to cause the roof to collapse inward a bit. Water collects here, leaving standing water on your roof, causing water damage and mold to form on the ceiling and roof. It can also put a crack and leak in your roof.

A leak in your roof can create significant problems for your Fitchburg home, especially if it goes unnoticed for a while. You can be dealing with a considerable amount of water damage in that case, and you need someone professional to help you clean and restore your home. Our staff at SERVPRO are trained and experienced to do just that. We deal with all kinds of water loss situations and are prepared to help you anytime you need.

With a leak in your roof, the damage has at least begun in your attic. When we are checking an attic space for damage, we examine every part of the roof construction to see if the roofing material is damaged. Our IICRC certified technicians also check to see if the roof decking material was affected and if the water is still leaking. We find any structural damage that has been done and check to see if parts can be repaired temporarily or permanently.

Some attics are easy to access while getting into others is more difficult. How much equipment SERVPRO techs can get into the damaged area is limited. Sheetrock may complicate drying, and any damaged sheetrock may have to be demolished. Once this is done, structural components in your attic area can dry reasonably quickly. We may even have to remove sheetrock so we can access areas in your attic.

Restoration of an attic many times involves working with insulation. We may be able to dry and save fiberglass insulation that got wet, but wet plaster or sheetrock underneath might not be salvageable. Almost always, when plaster or sheetrock has begun to sag, we have to move the insulation to an area that is unaffected to reach the sagging materials. Large insulation vacuums can remove the insulation, and possibly save it. For smaller areas, bagging can also work.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster can help get your home in Devens, Still River, or Sterling dry and restored after a roof leak. Call us at (978) 537-1500 as soon as you realize there is an issue so we can prevent additional damage from occurring.

Why Mold Damage Remediation Is an essential Service in Harvard

SERVPRO Can Remedy Mold Problems in Harvard Homes

Preserving Properties with SERVPRO's Advice and Help Against Mold

Our homes are susceptible to mold damage as far as there is the presence of moisture. Irrespective of the cause of the mold, it can compromise the value of our property, lead to permanent damage and sometimes cause health effects. If you do not act, its growth can continue and expand, and that is not good for your Harvard home.

Removing the source of the moisture is the first step that our SERVPRO technicians take during mold damage in Harvard, then dealing with the real problem follows. It is crucial to understand that spores – that act as seeds - spread this form of fungi. On the other hand, mildew is a form of fungi or mold. It can appear in various colors such as purple, brown, black, green, orange or pink.

Ceilings and wall interiors are prone to mold damage. When controlling this form of destruction in such areas, our SERVPRO technicians remove all contaminated or wet porous materials such as ceiling tiles. Where necessary, we can drill holes near the floor and detach the baseboard in attempt to drain walls of water or to allow for better circulation to dry out hidden moisture. When dealing with exterior walls and floors, we remove wet insulation and discard it. We also clean surfaces using disinfectant to prevent future growth of mold.

Though mold spores are almost everywhere, you have to learn how to prevent it from becoming a problem in your home. The secret lies in cleaning and drying your home whenever there is a water infiltration due to a flood or leak. It is advisable to take action within 24 - 48 hours after the water event. Ensuring that the humidity of your home lies in the acceptable levels is also necessary. Our SERVPRO technicians achieve that by setting up central air conditioning systems and dehumidifiers for an RH relative humidity level that helps prevent spore development into colonies.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is an industry leader that offers mold remediation and commercial and residential cleaning and restoration services. Call us at (978) 537-1500 when you face any water, storm, mold and fire damage, and we can make it “Like it never even happened.”

The Fire Damage Experts Of Lancaster

3/8/2018 (Permalink)

Don't let fire damage overwhelm you. Contact SERVPRO for a quick response to your fire damage emergency situation needs.

SERVPRO Understands Fire Damage Including Smoke Residues

If a fire burns your Lancaster home, many different types of damage possibly exist. Not only does the heat from the flames burn and char materials, but smoke coming from the fire damages things as well. Smoke spreads from the source of the burn to other areas of the building. Smoke leaves behind soot residues and possibly penetrates odors into specific materials.

Due to the different types of damage a blaze can cause, it is essential to seek professional help. SERVPRO's fire damage specialists in Lancaster are IICRC certified and know how fires behave. Studying the theory of fire helps our technicians find and adequately mitigate every problem a burn has caused inside your structure.

Anytime a loss due to a fire is reported, the issue gets classified as minor, medium, or major. The more severe the burn was inside your home, the more likely it gets classified as major. Our crews at SERVPRO have experience in the different procedures involved in all the types of scenarios.

The most common situation is minor damage resulting from an indoor burn. In these cases, there are little building materials that get burned and need replacement. The primary type of damage found in minor issues is smoke-related problems.

Whenever smoke fills a building, it leaves behind a few different kinds of soot residues. Most smoke gets classified as being either wet, dry, or a combination of the two. The types of smoke leave behind residues that take different methods to get clean.

Dry smoke gets created when a hot, fast-burning fire burns natural fuel sources. Dry smoke residues deposit small particles and stick to surfaces making the soot easy to clean. Wet smoke gets created when a cooler, slow-burning fire torches synthetic fuels. Wet smoke residues penetrate materials deeper and have more pungent odors than dry smoke. Since wet smoke particles are longer than dry smoke particles, soot coming from wet smoke is much harder to clean.

Anytime you are dealing with even the most minor types of smoke damage; it is wise to reach out to the professionals of the industry. For assistance with any smoke problem, call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 for help 24/7.

If water damage is ignored it can lead to mold growth.

Trust SERVPRO for Expert Commercial Water Damage Restoration

Your Sterling restaurant might have been around for several years now, but the fact remains that you are still very much at the mercy of the flow of traffic that comes into the establishment every day. Interruptions to this flow can lead to a significant loss in your profit margin, and there are an untold amount of emergencies that could cause a significant stoppage. However, with a little bit of forethought into whom you should call should disaster strike, you can spare yourself (and your patrons) unnecessary time away from the restaurant.

When you are dealing with water damage to your Sterling restaurant, it might at first appear as though it is something that you might be able to handle on your own. Our SERVPRO team can quickly assess the full scope of the damage while we work to address the damage that can be easily seen with the naked eye. That is why our experienced SERVPRO restoration specialists utilize infrared technology and thermal imagery to assess the full extent of the damage that your restaurant has suffered. Using Water Removal Equipment To Save Homes From Watery Disasters In Lancaster

2/19/2018 (Permalink)

Water-logged homes in Lancaster become drier faster when homeowners opt for water removal crews to handle the situation.

Using Water Removal Equipment To Save Your Home

Emergencies involving the home, which is often the most significant investment made, can bring high repair costs and other traumatic problems to Lancaster homeowners and their families. A majority of unexpected events involving water often occurs, with sources of malignant water coming from outside, inside, and below the property.

Water-logged homes in Lancaster become drier faster when homeowners opt for water removal crews to handle the situation. SERVPRO provides this service to homeowners as a primary service or in conjunction with others, when required. Protecting your home and making it "Like it never even happened" often begins by extracting all water, eliminating moisture and restoring normal humidity levels within the entire home.

Our technicians received training in the use of our equipment and coupled with the earning of certificates from the IICRC, so we know our crew can efficiently and skillfully handle your water emergency professionally, achieving the results your home needs.

After assessing the situation, the size of extraction equipment might range from our large truck-mounted pumps, which quickly remove thousands of gallons of water or smaller-sized and highly portable hand-operated units that remove water from small, localized areas within your property. We do not wish to use equipment too large for a small job, nor too-small equipment for a more extensive disaster. A vast difference exists between a slightly overflowed tub and a broken water pipe that occurred several hours, or even days, ago.

Once standing water no longer remains, we can proceed with other methods designed to extract moisture from structures and other items that absorbed water before we used our removal equipment. Powerful air movers, dehumidification units, and desiccant machines help reduce the amount of moisture in physical structures, personal belongings, and the air.

Because the level of moisture remains a focal point of our work and how we carry it out, we implement moisture readers and detection units that employ infrared technology. During our initial assessment, we test several areas inside your home, both affected by water and other areas that remained dry, and then compare those readings to newly taken ones when we conclude our work. This assures us that all unwanted moisture no longer remains present and that your home is once again dry.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster provides emergency services to the Still River and Devens communities, as well as the surrounding areas, including water removal equipment. Call us at (978) 537-1500 at any hour of the day or night, every day of the year, to receive professional assistance for your home's disaster.

Flood Damage in Your Lancaster Home and Safety

2/2/2018 (Permalink)

If heavy storms flood your home, call on SERVPRO to remediate the damage safely and quickly, we are here to help.

Let SERVPRO Take the Stress Out of Flood Damage

Heavy rainstorms can wreak havoc on your Lancaster property. When the water comes down too fast, and in too high an amount, it can quickly cause flooding, including flash floods. A situation like this leaves your home vulnerable to the rushing waters and can create a flooding issue inside your structure.

When the floodwaters have entered into your Lancaster home and left behind flood damage, it is not a pretty sight. It is overwhelming as well, and you may not know where to begin. However, SERVPRO does, and we can bring in our expertise and all the tools needed to extract the water and dry your home and possessions back out.

After we assess the damage and make a plan of action for restoring your damaged property, we can get to work. There is just one more thing that we need to think about first, though, which is the safety of you and our workers.

Floodwater can be quite nasty. Standing water leaves behind residues of biological and chemical contaminants which range from pests to cleaning chemicals, to pet waste. We treat the environment as hazardous because it is. We have you and your family remain out of the home while we are working. We also always use protective equipment and clothing to keep ourselves safe while we work and then make sure to clean our equipment and tools once the repair work is done.

Standing water can also degrade your home’s structural integrity. Water is a solvent, so it breaks down all kinds of building materials. We are cautious on staircases and while working in your home after severe flood damage. Flooring and ceilings can be weakened as well if there is trapped water in them, so we test for this. If needed, small weep holes are made in the ceiling where water is trapped so it can drain out.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is acutely aware of the dangers of a flood-damaged home, and how to work safely while restoring your home in Lancaster, Devens, or Still River. Reach out to us right away at (978) 537-1500 when your home experiences flooding so we can get there quickly to minimize the damages.

Mold Remediation Is Critical To Your Leominster Retail Store

1/2/2018 (Permalink)

When Mold Strikes Call SERVPRO to Keep Your Leominster Shop Open for Business

Fungus Removal Protects Your Retail Shop from Losing Business

While your Leominster retail store might not have much in the line of employees with plumbing experience, a small leak underneath a sink or from a worn piece of piping can present substantial concerns for you. These seemingly insignificant leaks might not present much of a threat when it comes to flooding or other water damages, but it could provide the ideal conditions for fungus to grow.

Mold damage to your Leominster business should be something that stays on your mind. Not only is this a factor that could cause health effects for the staff exposed to it, but it might also affect sensitive customers that are merely shopping in your store. Taking care of the problem right away can prevent these kinds of situations altogether.

Given that mold colonies grow in humid environments, and are prone to thrive on organic materials like cardboard boxes, failure to deal with the problem could end up impacting you financially as well. Consider the risk to the stock in storerooms and the understanding that once clothing or food becomes exposed to the fungus, you are no longer allowed to stock it on your shelves. Our SERVPRO team has the expertise to remove the threat to your business and your employees quickly and efficiently.

Isolating the affected area is the first step that our IICRC-certified remediation specialists take. Using negative air chambers, along with shutting off air circulation measures to the building, ensures that the mold spores present around a growing colony are not given the opportunity to spread. Removal of the colonies is a thorough process which can involve many different tools depending on the kind of fungus that is present, the full extent of the seated hyphae (full organism), and the surface the colony is growing on.

Typically, our technicians utilize scrubbers to deeply clean the surface where the mold is thriving, completely removing the entire organism. Eliminating the colonies prevents spreading, and along with preventative measures like fixing the source of the moisture in the air, dramatically reduces the risk of recurrences.

Mold damage remediation should fall into the hands of trained professionals held to IICRC standards. If you find or smell this fungus growing in your retail store, give SERVPRO of Fitchburg – Leominster a call. You can reach us anytime at (978) 537 -1500.

Cases of fire damage are common all over the world and knowing how to deal with them is so important. Fire damage can be very disastrous and can lead to massive losses. However, residents of Sterling should consider contacting SERVPRO and let our skilled and experienced technicians help restore the property after the disaster. Our technicians thoroughly clean the affected structures, getting rid of black spots, bad odor, and smoke particles.

Our SERVPRO technicians apply different methods to handle different situations. For instance, our technicians use dry cleaning methods to eliminate light or medium soils that are non-grease. To remove surface dust, we use dusting cloths or feather dusters to brush or lightly wipe the affected surface. After dry cleaning, our technicians go to wet cleaning. Wet cleaning is used to remove the moderate and heavy residues. In this method, our technicians use water together with other cleaning agents where necessary.

Another technique that our team uses while washing your contents is the spray and wipe formula. In this method, we use a spray device to spray and spread the cleaning agent. After spraying, a clean fabric is used to wipe the surface. Our team uses the spray and wipe method on materials that are hard to saturate in water or the cleaning product.

To deal with upholstery fabrics that are prone to shrinking due to wetness, our IICRC-certified technicians use a foam cleaning method. In this, we use a Tampico upholstery brush to stir a shampoo solution, creating lots of foam. We then spray the foam into the brush or a sponge and then apply the foam to the item. We use foam cleaning on light residues or materials that are delicate.

Typically mold starts out as a small patch and then can extend quickly throughout your home. Contact SERVPRO at the first sight to stop the spread.

Team SERVPRO Arrives With Mold Detection Tools to Isolate the Cause of the Mold Infestation in Your Home

When moisture exists in an enclosed area in your Harvard home for more than a day or two, microbes begin overgrowing. Before they form a colony large enough for us to see, individual ones remain unnoticed. Singly, they are too small to devastate a home. The typical home's environment holds mold and mildew, but ordinarily dry conditions keep problems from developing.

Homes in the area with visible mold damage in Harvard most likely have elevated humidity levels. When we visit a home to inspect for mold infestation, one of the first steps we take is locating where any water leaks exist. It is often quite easy to repair leaks within your plumbing system. Other locations, such as saturated ground in crawlspaces, may require more extensive measures to solve the situation. However, in many cases, installation of a dehumidifier keeps moisture at appropriate levels.

Other aspects of restoration work addressing mold damage and mold remediation can seem drastic, but without them, it can be almost impossible to complete the necessary work. Tearing out walls and other permeable materials, or removing tub and shower liners to reveal microbial colonies comprise a sizable segment of remediation.

Because mold can cause health effects in sensitive individuals, either from prolonged exposure over time or in large amounts at once, SERVPRO technicians wear personal protection equipment, including masks and full suits. Our gear also prevents the spread of mold from the area undergoing remediation to other, uncontaminated areas, within your home. Elimination of mold within any home remains an impossible goal, but we take the responsibility of containing mold very seriously.

After we complete the removal part of remediation, restoring walls and ceilings make your home look “Like it never even happened.” Even so, mold can grow in other locations that also require remediation. Attics, garages, crawl spaces, and basements can harbor large mold colonies, primarily if your family rarely uses these locations. Earning certifications from the IICRC in mold remediation and related fields, we arrive at your home ready for any degree of mold damage and infestation your home might hold.

The skilled technicians at SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster want to provide the services your home needs when mold damage appears. Mold can grow anywhere in your home and appear in different colors. All varieties call for remediation. Call us at (978) 537-1500 for our 24-hour services.

Removing Commercial Mold Damage In Sterling

10/10/2017 (Permalink)

Mold can close a business permanently if not treated promptly, and often no disaster is needed, just a leak.

Removing Commercial Mold

Here in Sterling, we tend to deal with water disasters more than others. It is important to do so quickly so that secondary damage from water or mold is eliminated or at least reduced. Mold can close a business permanently if not treated promptly, and often no disaster is needed, just a leak.

Many owners first detect mold damage in their Sterling business because of the distinctive musty odor. In a facility like a beauty salon, the odor goes unnoticed because the chemicals used on hair, skin, and nails mask everything else. Unfortunately, SERVPRO knows that by the time an owner sees mold growing across a bathroom ceiling or underneath a workstation sink, the infestation may have spread over more than one room.

To stop current growth and prevent future problems, we first eliminate the sources of water. We fully train our technicians to repair and replace everything from leaky faucets to drain pipes. By stopping these leaks, we take away the moisture mold spores need to expand and grow. Without it, they return to an inactive state and are easier to clean.

Now, we can clean and remove the mold. Most workstations in a salon are an inexpensive plywood or fiberboard. Technicians easily clean both materials with an anti-fungal agent and a little labor using cloths or sponges. If the infested pieces have an excessive amount of mold, our restoration team can easily dispose of and replace them cheaper than it costs to try and save them.

For mold across a ceiling or down a wall, it is always cheaper to have us remove the infested pieces and replace them. For ceilings, walls, and workstations, it is also faster to have us replace the affected material. That means getting customers back in the chairs faster as well.

If you discovered mold in your business, or suspect there may be an infestation, you need a professional service to remove it and restore your facility. SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is ready to help you reopen your doors as quickly and safely as possible. Call us at (978) 537-1500 to schedule an appointment.

Flood Damage Restoration Services Available for Your Sterling Home

9/21/2017 (Permalink)

If your home experiences storm damage, call SERVPRO to remediate.

Thorough Cleanup After a Storm

Our state has had a relatively quiet year for storms so far, but fall weather is on the way. As we have seen recently, a powerful storm can turn a quiet town or city into a total disaster area in just 24 hours. Restoring and repairing a home quickly once the water stops require a professional service.

Putting a Sterling home back together after flood damage is not a quick process. After decades in the business, SERVPRO has learned that the best method is to ensure that the home is free from moisture. Providing a safe, dry environment is always more important than being quick and careless.

Our technicians start with removing standing water. For any amount over two inches in depth, we bring in portable pumps to empty out the home. For water under two inches or after the pumps have done their job, we use extraction wands. These vacuum-like devices are designed to lift water from carpets and between floorboards without harming them.

Next, we remove property from the affected rooms. We do this to reduce the chance of damaging the items as we clean and to prevent fabric color and furniture finishes from staining carpets and floors. In some cases, we may remove certain items from flooded rooms before pumping or extraction if they hamper water removal efforts. Once removed, we have an inspector examine furniture and other personal property to recommend restoration or replacement.

At the same time, we examine the carpets and floors. Pumps and extraction wands remove moisture but do not dry everything completely. If left untreated, damp carpets begin to rot and floors with moisture still underneath the boards warp and twist in just a few days. If there is a pad underneath the rug, we remove and replace it. It is cheaper to replace them than attempting to dry and reattach them to the floor.

We use air movers, fans and space heaters to dry them and prevent secondary damage. The same actions we take to dry carpets and floors also reduces the chance for mold to expand and grow. At the same time, we set-up dehumidifiers to draw water from the air and lower the overall humidity (air moisture content) of the home. Lowering this also supports the other efforts to safely dry structural property like wall framing, sheetrock, and wood or plywood panels.

As a locally-owned franchise, SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster understands that each job site is not just a structure, but the home of one of our neighbors. We are here to help you return to a safe, dry home, so if you need us or just have a question, call us today at (978) 537-1500.

The Life Cycle Of Mold Spores That Cause Damage In Leominster

9/14/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation in Leominster Gets Help from SERVPRO

Understanding Mold Morphology Improves Remediation Techniques

Mold spores are everywhere. The omnipresence of mold is not a pleasant thought, but it is nonetheless true – fungus occurs naturally in the world around us, and the microscopic spores are frequently present both indoors and outdoors.

SERVPRO understands that mold damage is a cause for concern in Leominster homes. We know our customers are naturally not too fond of the telltale black and green patches. That is why we are on hand to quickly remediate mold and take steps to discourage regrowth. Understanding the life cycle of mold spores helps explain how and why fungus grows in your home.

The fungal life cycle begins with cells called hyphae. Hyphae are tiny hair-like cells that need two things to move to the next stage: Moisture and a food source. Moisture is present in many places throughout your home such as the laundry room, bathroom, kitchen or basement. Each hypha needs an organic food source – cellulose, wood, and drywall are all suitable choices.

Hyphae use nutrients and water to grow into a mycelium, which is the name for a cluster of hyphae. The mycelium is the telltale dark patch of mold that you recognize as a sign of mold damage in your home. Some of the individual hypha cells develop spores, which are the reproductive cells of mold.

The mycelium releases the spores, which drift through the air or cling to clothes, footwear, or your pet’s coat. Once the spores find a new spot with enough food and moisture, they settle and begin growing new hyphae. Thus the mold life cycle is complete and keeps on turning as more and more spores are produced and released to establish new colonies.

Understanding the mold life cycle makes it easy to see why complete mold eradication is not possible. However, SERVPRO’s IICRC-certified technicians are on hand to carry out thorough remediation and do all we can to prevent regrowth. We establish containment around affected areas and remove all visible signs of mold. We dry the area and give you advice on keeping it dry so that mold does not have the moisture it needs to start growing again.

Fall Inspection for Water Damage in Sterling

9/11/2017 (Permalink)

Look around your house for signs of possible water damage. It is better to get those taken care of right away and prevent leaks from continuing.

Prevention and Regular Home Maintenance can Help Strengthen Your Home's Reaction to Possible Damage

As the seasons change, proactive Sterling homeowners want to take prudent precautions and check their houses for water damage that may have gone unnoticed during the busy summer months. An inspection of the attic, foundation, and gutter and downspout system reveals rains during the spring and summer or ice and snow last winter invaded your home. What is your next step?

Water damage found inside a Sterling home cannot be ignored. Fall is a good time to make repairs to stop the slow deterioration water causes to your dwelling’s structure and avoid potential harm to your personal belongings. Look for signs that water has made its way inside, and then contact us for an assessment of the situation and suggestions on a plan to abate the damage done and eliminate the moisture source.

Signs of hidden or seemingly minor water damage that can slowly destroy the integrity of your home include:

Discolored areas on walls or ceilings indicate that water soaked the drywall or lath and plaster that make up these surfaces.

Bulges in ceiling or walls and peeling paint show where accumulations of water collected and tried to escape through the building materials.

Rusty coloration signals places where metal plumbing fixtures or heating elements such as vents and radiators leaked.

Textural changes or evidence of warping on flooring, especially loose or peeling synthetic tiles and buckling, crowning, or cupping hardwood floors, are signs that moisture made its way onto and under these common floor materials.

Musty odors and obvious microbial growth point to moist spaces where mold spores grew into colonies.

Puddles or damp spots that are unrelated to spills suggest leaks from failing plumbing or appliances, or saturated soil around your home perhaps due to poorly draining gutters or improperly graded landscaping next to your house.

SERVPRO technicians are familiar with a broad range of reasons water intrudes into a residence. We have the skills, experience, and equipment to find the source of the water, arrange for repair, and then restore the affected areas to preloss condition. Truck-mounted pumps and water extractors pull water from the structure and fixtures of your home. Air movers and dehumidifiers reduce the moisture content of the air, walls, ceilings, floors, and framework of your building.

Prepare your home for the challenges of the cooler months by ensuring subtle water damage is identified and abated through the efforts of SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster. Our phones at (978) 537-1500 are answered 24/7, and a highly-qualified team of restoration specialists arrives at your home within hours to consult and begin the recovery work.

Commercial Water Damage and Your Sterling Factory

8/27/2017 (Permalink)

When production is stopped due to damage, revenue is lost. Contact SERVPRO to remediate the damage and restart production at your plant.

SERVPRO Technicians are Quick to Assess and Remediate Damage so That Your Business Progress can Continue

Whenever a factory ceases production, the economic consequences are severe, affecting hundreds of families. Without the products made, numerous other businesses must wait for products to become available again, affecting many others, including consumers, across the nation.

Factories easily handle most threats, but commercial water damage in Sterling can stop production lines in almost any plant. Our local factories provide goods to industries in aviation, automotive motors, household hardware, and also make the prototypes needed to demonstrate newly designed devices and tools that do not yet exist. The health and vibrancy of our community businesses affect industries and commerce nationwide.

Water damage within a factory setting may hinder production in diverse ways. Included is a leak from a damaged roof during a rainstorm or other problem that permits vast amounts of water to flood and invade an otherwise dry location. Standing water still cannot negate the amount of damage that can occur from constant spikes in humidity from smaller drips or leaks on water coolers, refrigerator lines, and rushed coffee-making.

Water damages materials, particularly those that are porous, by making small changes in the structural makeup, increasing dimensions via swelling, and corroding surfaces with minute imperfections. SERVPRO's highly skilled technicians hold several IICRC certificates, including Water Damage Restoration (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD). The knowledge held by our committed team members, combined with restoration experience gained from jobs of both grand and small scale, ensures that restoration of your factory setting happens quickly.

When water damages the factory itself, we cut off the source of water and track it down to where it 'disappeared.' Then, we eliminate every trace of moisture so that new damage cannot happen. It is typically fast work when it comes to fixing peeled paint on walls and other surfaces, examining carpeted areas to determine the best restoration options, and removal and replacing of areas damaged beyond repair.

Our trusted partners, professional restorers, tend to damaged high-tech equipment and other electronics, quickly restoring them to functionality. Our team members work swiftly and thoroughly to clean assembly lines, end baskets, sorting areas, and anywhere else that water has created a mess that hinders your production goals. When presented with situations that may cause delays in your productions lines, our technicians are trained to inform your staff of the situation, keeping you abreast of all developments on an ongoing basis.

Protecting and bolstering our local and national economies is part of what drives SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster in providing mitigation services for factories suffering from commercial water damage. Protect your equipment and product lines from this and other disasters by calling our local number, (978) 537-1500, any day, and at any hour.

Leominster Flood Damage Can Occur from a Breached Roof

8/5/2017 (Permalink)

Storms and Flooding in Leominster Use SERVPRO for Water Removal

Verticle Flooding Increases the Water Damage to Leominster Homes

Storms in the New England area can be very destructive, and over time, the wear and tear can bring about additional problems for homes that are more weather-beaten than they appear. Many building materials can give a false sense of security because they seem fine until they disintegrate or breakdown when you need them most.

The roof of a house is intended to protect the inside of the home, but when an opening erupts because of missing shingles or a physical break, flood damage in Leominster can gravely affect the home's interior. Torrential downpours can produce gallons of water that, when trapped by your exterior walls and floor, accumulate much quicker than you might have expected. When rain falls outside, it rushes away, with little or nothing to stop its flow. However, when rain falls inside your home, it quickly rises instead of channeling away from your building.

Although this kind of flooding might not carry the pathogenic load that a flood from the terrain can carry and bring into your home, contamination from stored items inside your attic is likely to occur. Also, any droppings deposited by animal pests in crawl spaces can contaminate the water invading your home's living spaces below. Training at SERVPRO includes decontamination of such catastrophes, which is needed to make a home's surroundings safe again for people.

One aspect about flooding in this manner that can make things worse is that the water came from overhead, much like a bathtub overflowing on an upper story. The walls are saturated, electrical hazards skyrocket, and the floor/ceiling in larger rooms can become extremely weak and unsafe due to saturation. We can provide the remedy for these and other situational problems, ensuring that your family home is made safe again structurally.

Flooding, no matter the source or direction from which the water comes from can result in many different types of problems. Each one must be addressed and resolved, and the sooner restorative work begins, the less time the damage has to spread and worsen. Because We're Faster To Any Size Disaster, we can help minimize any damage your home and belongings suffer.

From the external structure of your roof, all the way to the floor, we can get flood damage mitigated quickly. Then we can sanitize everything in your home, including your child's favorite toys, clean, dry, and safe once again. Call SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster at (978) 537-1500 to make this happen for your family when flood damage threatens to take your home and turn it into a watery mess.

Fire Damage May Stem from Many Sources in Your Fitchburg Residence

7/22/2017 (Permalink)

When the Firefighters Are Gone, then SERVPRO Cleans Up the Damage in Fitchburg

Degrees of Heat, Smoke, and Flames Define the Pattern and Extent of Damage

The ways fire can affect a home are numerous. The original material which caught fire, the amount of material present, air currents, and even the time of year can all create differences from one fire to another. No two fires are identical. This broad range of characterizations is part of the reason firefighters spend substantial amounts of time training with different types of intentional fires.

SERVPRO technicians also continuously train so that they are always prepared for the many different kinds of fire damage in Fitchburg they may encounter. When someone already present at home puts out a smaller fire, damaged areas might be less costly but should still be repaired by professionals with experience. Water can become just as harmful if left to evaporate and cause staining on its own, even in small amounts.

When firefighters use hoses to wet everything down inside your home to keep it from catching on fire, steam can become quite prolific and spread throughout your home. A fine mist of steam, smoke, and soot, plus particulates from burnt materials slowly deposits these substances everywhere, indiscriminately. These deposits can pose risks to many of your personal belongings and keepsakes. Removing the soot and smoke residue must commence soon after so these items do not suffer any additional damage.

The water used to fight your home's fire can also damage support beams within your home, compounding the damage your floors may have already suffered from the heat and flames. Cleaning is not enough to restore a home in all cases. Structural integrity is crucial to protecting your family. Our technicians have been trained to IICRC's international standards, preparing them for all types and severity levels of fire damage. From the top of your home's roof down to the ground below your house, we can restore everything, so your family home is once again “Like it never even happened.”

Not only is a fire of any size a stressful and horrific event, but it is also a dangerous one that can continue placing your family's health at risk. Smoke residues can induce breathing difficulties, soot can contain harmful substances that can pose serious risks to toddlers who put contaminated items in their mouths, and weakened areas in walls can pose dangers from electrical shock.

SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster is a locally owned and operated franchise, making us your friends and neighbors. We are here whenever you might need us most, in traumatic events that can leave slight, or extensive, fire damage behind. Calling us at (978) 537-1500 should be your first step in restoring your home, which can also eliminate your family's bad memories of a terrible situation.

Mold Damage in Stored Clothing Can Indicate Bigger Problems in Fitchburg Homes

7/22/2017 (Permalink)

Mold on a Wall in Fitchburg Needs Remediation and Moisture Control--Call SERVPRO

Remediation and Humidity Control Get Your Fitchburg Property Back in Great Shape

Pulling items out of storage or the back of a closet can sometimes reveal damaged items. When any mold is present on fabrics and clothing, a larger problem is likely to exist in that area of your home. Other spaces may also have problems with fungal infestations, such as areas of the already discovered locations.

Fitchburg is full of beautiful homes, but mold damage is not choosy about which home it attacks. Dust is full of mold spores and other microbes, and they often easily carried into your home from the outside. Once there, they can quickly settle on a surface, and if conditions are correct, they can begin to grow.

Microbes such as mold spores and mildew only need a few basic items to grow and engage in its life cycle. The main component that we can control is moisture. A leak, a tiny drip, or even increased humidity from a poorly installed bathroom vent can provide more than enough moisture to allow fungal growth to happen.

We find these areas rich in moisture with the use of a hygrometer, showing us where increased moisture exists. Not only does this often reveal infested areas, but it often helps us discover the source of the moisture itself. When this is the case, we eliminate any future moisture from accumulating thereby reducing the possibilities of future mold infestations.

Whenever SERVPRO answers a call for mold damage, we know that remediation is only part of the answer. Prevention of future outbreaks of microbial growth is crucial to protecting your home. Even though mold is ever-present, with the correct measures, its movement can be controlled, and it can be a non-factor in your daily activities.

Expert applied microbial remediation technicians like those at SERVPRO are perfect for all your needs. We train our employees according to the standards developed by the IICRC so we can assure you that all traces of fungal activity ceases, and future activity effectively prevented. In addition to removing all known traces of infested materials in a safe manner that reduces the risk of contaminating microbe-free areas of your home, the installation of easily-maintained dehumidifiers can ensure correctness of humidity levels. Sans humidity, these tiny organisms can no longer proliferate into large mold patches.

We at SERVPRO of Fitchburg-Leominster understand that mold damage can be a serious threat to your home and the act of finding it in your home can cause you extreme stress. Call us at (978) 537-1500, so we can help you with remediation, from start to finish, and get your home back to how it should be once again.
